Haltech Trying to hook up Laptop but getting error ""insert system disk and drive""

Trying to hook up Laptop but getting error ""insert system disk and drive""

This is the laptop that came with my car/haltech E6K and this is the laptop that was used to tune it before. So, I'm trying to turn it on but getting the error: ""insert system disk and drive"".

What in the same hell can I do to fix this ?

Please, dumb it down for me ? Do I need to put something on a hard disk and shove it in there ?

It cant read the system file. Boot a dos disk and see if the c drive is still available. Most likely blown boot partition. If you can boot to a dos floppy you can try to repair the partition.

Try redownloading the software from Haltech's website.

Well, I put the DOS 6.22 Boot Disk on a little hard disk, I also had a kan map on there too. I tried to load that up but it still didn't work. It kept telling me to remove the disk and try again or something like that. Should I remove the Kan map so the only thing on there is the boot disk ?

Where did you get the boot disc? You need the boot disc for the laptop not the haltech software. What your computer desires has nothing to do with the haltech or it's software. If i were you i would PM budmanracing he seems like he knows what he is talking about.

after talking with budmanracing through pms, we figured my laptop is a gonner........

so, I guess I'll need to buy a laptop this week

what's a good laptop for a hillbilly ?

Just get a 30' RS-232 patch cord and hook it to your home computer. That is what a true hillbilly would do!!!

i bought a cheapo refurbished dell latitude D600 off Ebay and it works great...then used DOSbox....viola!!

wait, why do you think you need a new laptop? obviously the mobo is fine, since it will boot to the A drive. is the harddrive bad? you can probably get a new harddrive for it on ebay for super cheap. Just reinstall Dos 6.22, then the haltech sw and youre set
