K2RD Plug-in Harness

Guys,

Any of you have any experience with the K2RD plub-in harness adapter with a 3rd gen? It seems like it would make life a lot easier than wiring up the Haltech harness & would allow you to jump back to a stock ECU pretty easily...

http://www.k2rd.com/Online_Catalog/Haltech/plugin.html

I'm mostly curious because I'm thinking of going Haltech but I'm looking to eliminate some of the headache.

So the stock ECU stays mounted? I figured the stock ECU would get pulled so you would have room for the Haltech to mount in the kick panel...

If the stock ECU stays, do you keep stock functions like the OMP?

I thought you unplug the stock ecu to plug in the harness and haltech? I don't think it's possible to run the stock ECU and haltech together so the OMP will not work.

you can also use the stock ecu to run the omp and the smog stuff if you need it.

I have installed the harness in a couple different FDs. Very easy to install and switch back to the stock ECU. I do not believe the piggyback harness is out yet from K2RD yet, but it would be nice to control the stock stuff with the stock ECU and control fuel and timing with the E6K.

You can run the SMOG stuff with the PWM outputs on the E6K, you do not need the stock ECU for that.

Witht he plug-in harness, would the factory sensors and etc be used also, or would they still be replaced?

How much is this harness selling for?
I am planning on using all the stock sensors except the map also.

thanks!

I don't know that I have ever gotten or seen a straight answer on this. What does the plug and play harness not support. I have been trying to find out if I can control the load the AC puts on the engine and maintain idle easily and the other thing is how does the Haltech adjust for ambient temperature. I want to put this in my car but not at the expense of reliability and contantly having to adjust it based on temp. I want to set it and leave it alone unless I add a mod that requires more fuel or ignition.

The plug and play harness can work with A/C. The BAC is what adjusts for A/C load.

You will need to learn more about EFI if you are asking if it adjusts for ambient temp, this is not a carberator you are setting up.

i was thinking of getting this harness but i think i would rather take out entire stock wiring harnes for easy trouble shooting down the line. i have had bad luck trying to troubleshoot with all those wires. i think this is the route i am going to go. (NO k2rd harness) i would rather take the car off the road for more than 5 min than to have to figure something out latter. thats just my .02
i think it is good if you are affraid of doing the job though. nice idea.

He's right. I thought the K2RD harness was just a modified flying lead harness to have all the appropriate connectors at the appropriate lengths. I want nothing to do with the stock computer. Im tired of the shitty ground problems and such.

yeah...wouldnt 20 wires be SO much easier than the ENTIRE harness? you only need a few sensors to get the car to run.
it will be much easier to replace motor as well. i have already gone through 5 motors in my fd alone. eliminating that harness would make a motor swap that much easier. ( i am planning on another motor swap after haltech due to my lack of experience with tuning with it, but still keeping my fingers crossed) with that nasty stock harness out of the way, that would take more of the headach out of the way than the 5 min instal of a stupid harness that i would have to spend the extra money on...
motor swap would now equal "pop out and pop in"

There is info that states that all features do not work with this PnP harness. Can you tell me which ones they are.

I realize that a fuel injection system looks at many aspects of the engine to optimize the fuel mixture. I have read that the Haltech does not work well with temperature change or altitude. I am looking for confirmation on this. I want to install this on the car tune it on a dyno and be done with it. I do not want to constantly break out the lap top and tweak it because I decided to drive the car through the Rockies or get caught in a snow storm. I doubt that this would ever happen but I would think that these things would be important in making a decision on whether its is worth my while.

I plan on going with a TO4 60-1, Intercooler, fuel pump and bigger secondary injectors and I need to make sure I'm not going to pop the motor because the temp dropped 40 degrees...so any input would be appreciated.

I would imagine there is a reson for an intake temp sensor, so the Haltech can adjust fuel/timing. Im not sure about altitude.

Intake temp has a fuel compensation map for it.&nbsp Intake temps do not affect ignition timing - or at least there's not compensation map for ignition timing for it.

There was a big discussion about altitude and MAP-based load functioning on the Haltech Support list a few months ago.&nbsp One guy claimed altitude did screw up his engine even though running on MAP-based load mode.&nbsp The majority claimed it wasn't.&nbsp This is probably what phinsn98 is talking about.&nbsp The discussion for real nasty when a Mr. Brian Kennedy started going off on Hitman - not pretty.&nbsp I've had beefs with Mr. Kennedy before this happened last year on the Haltech Support list - that wasn't pretty either.

My experience?&nbsp We've tuned Haltech system from Sac to Reno and back.&nbsp We never ran into any weird problems with the changing altitude running up HWY80 with the Haltech system.
