J and S Knock Sensor and Haltech

I would like any opinions on using a J and S Knock Sensor with a Haltech E6K. From what I understand the J and S can only retard timing on the leading side or the trailing side, but not both at the same time.

Is anyone on this list using a J and S with Haltech?

Thanks

Anthony

Well, the leadings are a few degrees behind the trailings anyway, so im guessing, if the J&S retarded the timing via CAS, then the leadings would automatically retard also. Not sure, but just my .02

Here is a reply from John of J&S about the rotary Haltech setup.

"Wayne:

I assume the Haltech using one channel for the leading coil, and two
channels for the trailing coils?

The J&S intercepts the signal between the Haltech and the igniter for the
leading coil.

Out of the six rotor faces, it's able to tell which ones are knocking, and
retard those, leaving the timing alone on the others.

When it hears knock, it knows that it's from the rotor face that just fired,
and that this same rotor face won't fire again for three more revolutions.
The next time it fires, the processor cranks in the retard.

The system does this for all six faces, retarding only the knocking ones.

John"

Sounds like a must, Abel and Adam Saruwatari has also used the unit in their setups.

Nah, it retards downstream of the ECU.
Like all the other threads - it's a waste of money.
J&S has no clue on how the stock ignition works, and they have sold a lot of these things to RX-7 owners for a tidy profit.

Question

Alright, who is right? What is the easiest and heapest way to at least minimise the effects of knock in my engine. Does anyone know? Cheap alternatives that somewhat work?
