Haltech haltech question
haltech question
Any way to test one of these? I'm picking one up for 275 tomorrow from a guy on Craigslist, and I dont know him. Speedy answer is appreciated!
I was thinking wire up the 12v and gnd, then see if a laptop could see it?

Hey yes you can do that you will also need the connection to the laptop.
It will power on does not mean it works, etc inj drivers, map etc.
It will be a risk you will have to take but 275 sounds a bit on the cheap side

Now I just want to make sure it will read with the laptop, if thats the best test I can do. Is it USB or old school 9 or 13 pin serial? Guess I need to pre-load the haltech software and drivers and whatnot...

Found the cable on the net for about 15 bucks, but the issue is goingto be getting one by tomorrow.
after doing some MORE research... haltech doesn't support (repair) e6k's anymore
its only 275... thats not much to lose, and i know where this guy works, and what he drives!
I have a USB to serial adapter if you'd like to use it. The only issue is that you'd need to download a driver for it. Otherwise, I have an old *** laptop that has a DB9 connection, but you'll need upload the haltech software on a 3.5" floppy to get it on the laptop. Once again, don't worry, I have floppy discs and an external floppy drive. I won't be needing this stuff until the weekend, as I use it to tune the MS2 on my convertible
Check your pm for a phone number.

you would need to send it to haltech to have it tested...only way to know for sure. you might be able to connect to it on a laptop but that doesn't mean everything else will work.
I am in Palm Bay, FL and I think I may have a DB9 to USB adapter you can use if you want to come get it. Anywho, PM me if you are still in need and I'll make sure that I can put my hands on it for you.
I ended up buying the e6k and the mostly complete harness. Still working on finding a 3 bar MAP sensor, and temp sensors etc. It isn't in bad shape actually, but I did spend the better part of 3 hours trying to get it "online."
The only two wires I hooked up are red and black... 12v/gnd. No dice. I want to try this on an old laptop before i call it busted. Agreen, I might come bug you this weekend, if you let me use the laptop, you could teach me some tuning stuff.

Man... would have taken you up on that if I didnt just figure it out! I just loaded up the base maps, still gotta do the install!
ehh... c'mon Mr. Rat, help me out! I've read that I need a bunch of "generic" Delco sensors, but I dont know exactly which ones. The harness didn't even have the relays in it! I had to jumper the 12v constant to the unit.
its an s5, so I assume I can retain the TPS, though its a JDM, I dont know if that matters.
I dont ever see myself going to 30psi, so can I stick with the 2bar MAP sensor?

Why would you even keep that crappy TPS? and a 2 Bar map only goes to 14.xx PSI.
As I recall, you can buy sensor kits for the K, or I can look around. Most of the sensors are generic GM style.
