Chris,

Map attached. -ve is to pin 5 (not to an external ground)

Really, I dont think its a FFE thing. If its not picking up home but all the other triggers than thats a software issue right?

I posted on the haltech forums as well just to see if anyone had an idea on there.

I wonder if I contact FFE for a hall effect sensor and the Rx8 trigger wheel and see if that helps.

??

Find trigger but not home - Official Haltech Forums

C. Ludwig 10-02-16 10:39 AM

You have selected the wrong trigger type. You need Generic Missing Tooth - No Home

Cheers,

I did try that setup but I still got Errors.

Is there another setting I should modify?

Havoc 10-02-16 07:38 PM

Ill try it again tonight as well to make double sure...

Havoc 10-03-16 12:10 AM

just doing some reading. Im going to flip the polarity on the sensor and run the "multi tooth no home" and see what it does.

C. Ludwig 10-03-16 03:42 AM

I'm 100% certain that's the correct trigger type. Wire the sensor as FFE says and choose falling edge. I didn't go through everything else. The only other thing that would be an issue would be trigger voltage threshold. You'll need a scope or some good info from FFE to set that.

well reversed the polarity, changes to no home and I think its working :)

Im not getting any errors but I am getting a "trigger system error count"

so not sure what that is Log attached.

Now to see why Im still not getting spark! :)

Havoc 10-04-16 06:12 AM

Urg.. fail. Seriously cant be this hard!!

Going to get a hall sensor and see what happens...

Havoc 10-06-16 12:06 AM

Cool going to try one more setting and see how I get on.

Otherwise FFE have said they can send a HALL sensor and I'll also grab there Rx8 trigger wheel to test that as well.

updates to come.

C. Ludwig 10-06-16 05:36 PM

What's the sensor air gap?

Havoc 10-10-16 09:16 AM

Chris, had some wins and losses.

Was stuffing about about did a number of changes. I increased the gap in the sensor. I put on the new software and the new firmware. I changed all the setting back to Generic no him - falling - Ground ticked (what we assumed should have worked all along)

And it started working. No errors looked great.

wired up pin A13 accessories (E8 never needed it previous) and did a test for spark

Got spark :) yay so ran out of time and then had another crack tonight.

Fail. Getting "Stability errors" on the lappy.

Then when it loads it doesnt find any DBW settings. Or MAP.

But the bdw works.

Sigh... will try again tomorrow.

Havoc 10-11-16 01:41 AM

Also was able to change the trigger offset to get the timing setup.

Need do some searches for what Lock settings I need I think its -5 and 15 split.

Trigger offset is coming in about 68 which is surprisings. might be a 13B RE thing as I know 90 is where its suppose to be.

C. Ludwig 10-11-16 03:30 AM

I just got one of these going last week with a 36-1 wheel. So, again, I'm certain there is not an issue with the Haltech reading that wheel. The car I worked on had had a no start issue for several months of the owner and two different shops trying to get it started. The root cause appears to be an engine assembly issue that pushed the pulley hub out from the front cover about .100" more than it should be. The air gap on the sensor was .130". We shimmed it with washers to bring it in to about .050" and it immediately fired up with no errors. With a VR sensor, you should see .030-.040".

The FFE wheel has a timing mark at 0° BTDC. So set your leading at trailing lock value at 0°. Adjust the offset value until the mark and tab on the cover align. The 36-1 wheel should have an offset value real close to 90°. The Renesis wheel should have a value of right around 280°.

Havoc 10-11-16 04:00 AM

Well I think I have a different wheel...

No timing marks. I even asked them and they said use the stock pully for the timing marks..

(Ill get some pictures when I get home)

Chris, is there a trick with the stability on the software? I keep getting errors. Ill post a vid (when I get home)

Havoc 10-11-16 08:22 AM

Well Chris, some wins and not.

I owe you a beer, you need to come to Australia so I can buy you one :)

Software is playing up... It stability dies when it loads the map from the 1500. I reinstalled the software and same issue. So I cant see
DBW, no Calibration tabs, doesnt read TPS and Im sure its missing some other inputs.

But I locked the timing -5Leading and 15 Trailing and Im getting a trigger offset around 65

So, put the fuel back on and with a few cracks she started up! Very Happy, thank you..

Was Very rich! but that Q button for auto tune is f#cking awsome. Still a bit rough but the tune needs work.

The Crank sensor is still shimmed - Ill remove that and see what happens.

It will also just stall if I remove a bit opf throttle, Im hoping the DBW will fix that in time, but as I cant see it at all on the software I cant modify the settings...

But sucess for now (attached images - you can see I have no pully marks on my FFE wheel - just using the original 13bre timing marks relocated to my gilmer.)

Hi guys,

So got more progress done.
Mounted up the fuel flex but not wired in yet.
Got my Gilmer all done so it wont clash with the FFE setup.
Got the fast reacting FD air temp installed.
Still waiting on the knock sensor and stud from oneone from this forum...

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...494211f93c.jpg
reduced Gilmer width to suit the FFE trigger setup

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6c1964cebf.jpg

Engine bay back to operational.<br/>Fast reacting Air temp now installed

Now I dont have a trail shaft yet so cant go for a drive but got some very simple tuning questions.

On start I have to be 100% WOT for a few seconds, then let it drop back to 10% throttle and it will start, once running its fine. I'm assuming this is because its under fuelled when trying to start.

Whats the right way to correct this? I'm assuming the fuel base map stays as it is?. Then modify the post start fuel correction map till it starts?

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...26934ec6cc.jpg

And in regards to long term fuel trim, just so I can rev the engine in fuel cells and it can do its auto adjust, it currently reads all 0's as its doesn't meet the criteria to activate yet. If I turn down the air temp threshold will this start the auto tune or do I need other setting to make it mor aggresive. I can then role it all back later. (just backfires and the like if I try to rev it)

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6f0578f161.jpg

And no Im not going to tune it :) Just having a play.

Havoc 11-02-16 08:16 AM

well turning the temp range has been helpfull for just playing.

One question, on the long term trim, my idle has setting it wants to apply but when I got to idle control it doesnt give me the option to apply the values. Is there a trick Im not aware of? will post some pictures later.

EDIT: or is it because I have closed loop on the idle control?

C. Ludwig 11-02-16 11:29 AM

Min temp is coolant temp, not air temp. You don't want LTT active while the engine is cold and is running coolant enrichment.

Havoc 11-02-16 10:45 PM

Thanks Chris, that makes sense.

In regards to idle LLT is there a reason why I cant press apply? The button is blacked out and I cant press it. (Is it because Im closed loop or DBW?)

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...f68b10d377.jpg

So its started to make the modifications from the LLT for idle.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d8b75c5dec.jpg

But the apply LLT idle settings I cant apply?

C. Ludwig 11-03-16 03:31 AM

Not sure. It would be a simple manual change. Have you asked on the Haltech forum?

no not yet. thought t was me doing something wrong but will do. Will let you know what they say.

Havoc 11-09-16 09:11 PM

Chris,

Looks like there is an error with the firmware.
LLT idle - cant apply ? - Official Haltech Forums

So will manually apply and then wait for future updates.

So wiring is 99% done. I really feel Ive taken the car from 1990's tech to the most current on the market now.

DBW - done
Knock input - done
Speed input - done
Fuel Flex - Done
wideband - done

Other
Reverse lockout on the T56 - Done
Electric power steering speed input - done (need to calibrate)
All 8 Defi gauges - done previously
Electric water pump - new setup all done.

So not long till I get it off the jacks and can start playing with the tuning.

Now for some questions:

Knock
So I now have knock and Ive not had it before. Its working I picked up a few pings.
1: whats a high Db?
2: do I need to set the filters and the like?

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...f9624ce3a9.jpg

Starting
I still need to crank it for 3-5 seconds wide open throttle. Then stop. Then restart with no throttle and starts right up.
Im guessing this is the priming map. Ive upped this from 400 (at current temp) to 600 and now 1000 and still not starting off the key. Im guessing I keep playing? I see that 10000 is the max.
Any tips?

LLT
yeah haltech has an issue - will wait for the new updates.

Fuel Flex
The default % on the fuel flex is 2% (no E85 added at all - just pump) is that ok, or should be be ready 0% Im guessing 2% is sweet FA in the bigger scheme of things anyway
