e8 ignition issues?

i've seen this in both fc and fd setups.

it seems like the e8 is extremely sensative to the filter and gain levels. my fd would breakup at ~2500rpm until i turned the filter from 0 to 1, then it would be fine... until it started breaking up @ 3kish a few weeks later...blahblahblah... i played with the gains and filters until i got it right.

so anyone using an 8509 reluctor adapter for the e8 yet, or am i the only one that's had issues with it?

the breakup felt very similar to the way the x's breakup, but the datalog didn't show any of those 16k rpm spikes. so even though i've got it good now, i'm thinking about using the reluctor adapters for some extra reassurance.

opinions?

I have personaly never had any issues with ignition noise on an E-8/11.
Filter at 1 or 2 and gain at zero works pretty well for me so far.

i had to turn the gins to 1 or it wouldn't get an rpm signal.

but maybe i've got a noise issue with some other componant causing interference.

Are we talking FD or FC here?

Where are your spark plug wires?

Where are your CAS or crank trigger wires?

I only seen one FC install, and the CAS signal was very stable.

BTW, where did you ground the two - wires?

I've had similar issues on my FC.
Gain for both must be 2+ to get a signal.
Filter doesn't seem to make much difference.

12V wire is tied off.
Gnd is connected to both VE- (white and white/black) wires
The other 2 are wired to the corresponding trigger signals.

I haven't gotten mine to run well enough to find a hesitation yet.
I'm troubleshooting a possible vac leak right now(pulsing idle, only 2PSI vacuum).

I'll post any findings after I get it running stable.

Anybody think this might have to do with the Air Gap? or, also, ive seen enough brittle wires on CAS in FCs and toasted connectors in FDs to think that there might be something there.

Throw the bitch on an o-scope, and it'll be obvious...

o-scope probably won't pick up noise from other items., though.
