Hope you have a backup of the map for that setup, if not, you might need to start from scratch. Some people have suggested to use the DOS software for the X since it doesnt have the password to at least retrieve the map.

Other than that, not much to do but start from scratch.

I PM'd you.

You have to reload the base map and set "NULL PASSWORD", then you can start working on the unit. Sometimes, very rarely, there is a hickup in the comm proceedure and this puts some garbage data on the password field for some reason.

You should always back your currnet map so you can be able to reload it if trouble comes, but ive never set passwords on my installs, and have not had a problem yet.

ok tried that and once the default is loaded it comes up and asks for the password again.
serial password
tried getting everything ready off-line nullpass load file etc
then went online it loaded twice looked like all was working but once its done
it asks for the password again and will not allow any chances to anything
it will allow looking at the data pages and load files etc thats it.
wtf am i doing wrong.. maybe its the lap top I hate win xp!
and i have to use a usb to serial adapter , most new laptops don't have a mouse connection
everything is usb now.

I personally dont use USB with these things, i have a P3 700mhz HP laptop with serial ports, built in flopp driver and Dvdrom/cd-rw, that way i dont have any hickups.

Loading the base map should've worked. I might try emailing Haltech or go on the Haltech forum to find more info on this, its been covered.

I beleive that you are not communicating with the E6X. Are you using HalwinX?

I remember mine doing this when there was no communication. You think it is loading, but then it asks for a password.

Make sure you have the com port set up properly. How are you communicating with the haltech.

By the way, when you do communicate with the Haltech, it takes about 5 - 10 seconds to load the eeprom.

By the way, if you are using HalwinX, what version are you using?

ver 1.23 halx
tried both the usb rs232 adapter
and the printer port with adapter
both seem to go through the % loading thing but after it asks for password, which
takes from 1 to 100% 30 secs or so.
I would try the dos software but for some reason on my laptop the graphics go
stupid and dont display right.
next step is to try another computer.

What usb r232 adapter are you using. I am assuming that you have loaded the drivers for it.

Also, if Halwin is set to com port 1, try setting it to com port 2 and vice versa.

I am using the usb r232 adapter, and I have to make sure I always plug it into the same usb port, or else it can't connect to the Haltech, due to being on the wrong com port.

If not, try downloading the newest version off the Haltech site.

Also, what happens when you run the program, and try going online, without any connections to the Haltech? Does it give the same results as you are presently seeing?

gave up with the newer laptop and tried a older one with a 232 connection and worked
first try. trick is to use a computer with a 232 port.
now its a matter of learning how to use the halwin software to tune this thing.

Its still amazes me how we still cant let go of either DOS or RS-232.... Haltech should incorporate USB into their units, much faster comm speed and a whole lot easier in todays modern laptop/WinXP world.

I just answered a post in the Haltech forum about this very thing, newer laptop with USB port only that is experiencing this problem, sugested he get an older one. Lets see what happens.

Also, wrote Haltech about the incorporation of USB comm protocols in their systems and they said they are working on this, but it wont be available anytime soon.
