The main differences between the S and the K are:

1. K has better comm speed
2. K has faster processor (i think)
3. K has 4 PWM outputs the S doesnt
4. K can be configured completely through software, the S has to be tweaked through dip switches and jumpers in the board.

So, there you go.

K technically is better, BUT!, the S will work just as good, minous the additional features.

Nop, it did have it, but you need to really know what to do to make it work right, you have to tweak the jumpers and dip switches inside the ECU.

Although from what i know, its only on the last production runs of the S, so, maybe the last 1000 units to be made worked with most ignitions?

I've installed a couple of S so i can tell you it does work when set right, its just like playing with the Gain settings in the X or K software.

The E6S has a questionable internal reluctor set-up.
I've never heard of people having too much luck with the E6S with RX-7 stock ignition triggers.
We've always had to resort to a pair of MSD 8509's (ala E6A).

It's worth it just to go with the E6K cause of their internal reluctors, since the E6K internals are rock-solid with the RX-7 ignition components.

I dont want to turn this into a pissing contest, but i have used the S with its internal reluctor properly dialed in on 2nd GEN CAS, and it works perfectly. But like i said before, that was on the last production firmware for the S, something like the last 500-1000 units. But it DOES work.

At any rate, the MSD8509 boxes do provide a much better, more compatible hall effect signal for the haltech to read from.

Its like the thing with the X in the begining, people were setting them up as if they were Ks and that just cause a whole lot of problems. Its the same thing here, when properly set they will work perfectly.

Nah, not a pissing costest.
The added info is always welcome.

You're right.
The E6S boxes we messed with were very early production #'s.
It was easy to install the 8509's since the cars already had a previous E6A installed.
Our initial tries with the E6S internal reluctor was pretty bad.

No worries man, my very first install was an E6S on my personal FC back in 2000, i had to use the 2 MSD 8509's cause i didnt know about the internal reluctor, and 3 MSDs since i didnt know about using the stock igniter method either, which it could do. We spend 3 days sorting it out and calling people back and forward. Turns out my old S could've been installed without any of those things since it had the appropriate firmware, but such is life, you live you learn.

not 6al ignition boxes.... you need 2 MSD 8509 boxes. They dont do anything but change the wave from the cas to the "Hall Effect" wave. Just msg me if u get the boxes with e6s. I can help you wire it up.

Ideally you will need 2 MSD 8509s, or one RA10 Haltech reluctor adapter. And i just did this recently with an S i had lying around and found out that you can trigger the stock igniters with it, it didnt have the Constant Charge setup work right, so to fire your RX-7 properly you will need to have 3x MSD 6A ignition boxes for that to work. I had that on my car years ago and it worked fine, its just a big demand on the electrical system on those cars.
