internally, the e6x has more modern electronics.

The e6x firmware supports multiple fuel and ignition maps, so you can switch between two maps via an externally controlled source (like a nitrous activation switch for example). I have heard that there is an e6k firmware out there that adds this capability to the e6k's but I have yet to try or even locate it.

There are probably other differences that I cannot recall right now, hitmans site may have both product brochures still online for download.

There have also been many reports of problems getting the stock FC3S CAS functioning properly with the e6x where the e6k worked perfectly fine, something to do with noise interfering apparently.

Internal upgrade reluctor (RA8) on the E6X which is more headaches than it's worth for FC applications.
E6K had a beta firmware version that supported dual-map set-up's, but I heard this is buggy - I still stick with v6.34 myself.
The E6X went with full sequential injection for piston engines, but this does not apply to 2-rotor rotary engines applications.
E6X now has officiall Windows support - HalWinX.

For the most part, these are the major differences.

so basically, if you can find an e6k, get it. if not, get the e6x and enjoy the windows software.

I'm no expert tuner, but I have used both the K and X with Halwin in 2 different cars. There are some interesting improvements over the DOS software:

the 3D map view is nice, since you can see the whole map rather than just an RPM slice. You can rough tune from that map view as well.

Copy and paste of map points. Found that quite convenient.

Multiple maps open at the same time. Just switch with Alt-Tab.

More scale increments. I find the K software doesn't have many numbered increments, especially for the correction maps. HalwinX is better for that.

I asked haltech and they said the halwinx will not run the e6K they said the backend protocal is different and they ecu's are not compatable.

So i am confused if you were able to run it on a e6k.

The protocol differences between the K and X are very minor. I have implemented both protocols, there is no technical reason for why haltech does not support the K with halwin. This is purely a business decision as far as I can tell, perhaps selling more X units because existing K owners want new software is the motivation behind the decision.

I have heard there were halwin betas floating around for the K but I think only dealers had copies.

If you mean me, I guess my statement may have been comfusing. I was comparing E6K DOS with E6X Halwin.

I only mean you if you work for haltech.. I emailed them and this is the reply:

Hello Zach,

The E6K is only supported by Dos based software. The E6X and E11v2 are the first Haltech units to be supported by the Windows based platform. All research has now ceased on the E6K. This unit can not be upgraded to an E6X unfortunately, as the two units are different platforms.

If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.

Best Regards
