MN Anyone using a Haltech in MN??

Hey all. Here is my dilemma...I bought a PS1000 with a terminated harness and wideband O2 box (for my 85 GS with an 86 13B) under the assumption a shop near me would be able to help tune and install if needed. Well, I just talked with them and they don't work on rotaries...I should have double checked that info prior to buying but anyway, I am way out of my element when it comes to tuning and making sure everything is good. I was able to install it and got the engine started on the base map but it was not running very well (rpms all over the place and slight throttle bumps could cause it to jump up). However, last night I was working on it again and now it keeps blowing the ECU and INJ fuses whenever I turn the ignition on.

Is there anyone or any place that you are aware of in MN which I may be able to turn to for help with this?

Im in MN..Unfortunately we don't have a shop in MN that is willing to touch a rotary....Closest places are Beyond Redline in Wisconsin..Luke there is a very good tuner, although some of the wiring work I've seen from them has been less than impressive, but like i said their tuner Luke is a very good tuner..The other is Elite Rotary Shop in Schaumburg Illinois...Elite is currently working on a FD that my dad and I have worked on together. They have had the car for about 4 months and haven't gotten much done, thats not to say they do bad work, but my experiences with them thus far have shown timeliness is not their strong suite...They are both about a 6 hour drive from the cities......I'm having issues of my own..just finished wiring my fc and my elite won't even boot up, so I can't even attempt a start....It sounds like you need to grab the meter and start checking over your wiring..those fuses shouldn't be popping. Just review your wiring diagram, make sure all your wiring is perfect, everything is insulated properly, and you have proper power and grounds. Thats what sucks about being in Minne though, theres simply no shops or community anymore..back in the early 2000s I used to know a whole clan of MN rotary guys..we had meets and bbq's and spent long nights in garages working together to keep everyones cars on the road, good times...

Thanks for the info! I have been in contact with Sal at Elite Rotary Shop and am planning on trailering the car down there next week. It's gonna be a long drive just to drop it off, but it will be nice to have someone to work on it for me. Thanks for the heads up on their timeliness. I was hoping they would have it done within a few weeks, but man, 4 months....that's crazy.

For the wiring, I figured it was a ground wire somewhere but haven't had a chance to find it. Being a terminated harness, all the wiring was done for me so i just have the 3 ground wires to check. If I need to tear into the harness itself, I'm going to be pissed as Haltech has already messed it up once.

He said he'd be at 7 stock until wednesday so i hope to meet him on friday when i make it down there. They did say they are having a tuning event in november and that they will be able to tune it then. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of the month. I do hope you get yours back soon! I'm excited to be able to tear up the streets again!

Let me know how your experience goes....i just found out that the elite 1500 ecu I bought from him is not the ecu that was originally in the box...the ecu I have does not power up even on a bench test...then noticed the ecu serial # is about 600 units older compared to the serial # on the box for it...according to Haltech these are suppose to match..this means at some point before sending me it someone pulled the original ecu out of the box and replaced it with a older fried unit....not too happy...i would prob be at that tuning event with ya if this weren't the case..

Sam at Elite is a good guy. You'll pay a good bit for their products and service, but they are top notch on both. Plus Nelson Siverio is their "shop" tuner and he is damn good, if not the best out there.

That all being said, don't be afraid to tear in yourself, it's intimidating on the front end but you'll find it really isn't rocket science when you get into it if you commit.
