I'm considering making a run of 99-Style License Plates for 99-Spec front ends. If you're not familiar, it will be something like this:



There have been group buys on these in the past, but they are small run, sell out and that's that. This will probably be similar.

I'm trying to get the numbers up around 50 pre-orders so we can get the best pricing.

Couple notes:

Sizes: The above pictured plate extends a bit into the 'mouth' of the front end. I'm considering offering a bit smaller size that doesn't block any airflow. Opinions on this are welcomed.

Colors: The plan is to offer a black plate with a silver logo. However, I *may* be able to offer custom logo colors if people want. More news on this later, and of course, opinions welcomed.

Style: If you have a sharp eye for fonts and attention to detail - you may notice variances on plates in the past. The one pictured basically uses the same logo as the emblem. There are other plates that Mazda used for media shots on the RZ that used a different font... and other group buys have had different (but similar) fonts as well. I am expecting to use that EXACT font for these plates.

Production: Still priliminary - but these won't be a garage project. These will be made from aluminum, produced by a metal stamping company and be drilled for our cars (some plates in the past had four 'universal' holes). I will confirm how the logo will be applied, but I believe it will be silk screened for long lasting performance. An option for clear cost may also be available.

Pricing: No exact pricing yet, but it'll be in line with what they have been in the past ($30ish-$40). Posted prices will include shipping (CONUS) and any PayPal fees.

whatever that is on the gray rx7, thats what I would like.

 

That plate has a silver logo. The only difference between what I'm producing and that one is the height. The one in the picture extends into the mouth of the bumper and blocks some airflow, this one will stay flush with the top of the mouth and not block any airflow.

Just playing with colors a bit. It seems we're locked in on a black plate to get quantity discounts, but the logos can have some variance:

Thanks! I think it turned out better than I thought.

I'm gonna get some samples rolling in the next day or two to verify a couple things; hole position/size, plate size, material and if the red border is thick enough.

I'll keep this thread updated... I just hope we start getting a few more eyes on it.

 

I'm interested. Kansas has no front license plate so I need something to fill in that spot. I also like how your plate design won't stick out below the bumper and provide better air flow to the front bumper.

Hmmm... I probably could do something close. Keep in mind, these aren't going to be "painted" with automotive paint so matching Montago Blue 100% would be tough. If you could find me a hex code (computer talk for a color code) then I could do it.

 

Ah ok, I wasn't sure if you decided on offering other colors. Now I have to fig out which would look best...

Nice to see you guys jumping on board!

I got my first samples and the quality of the plate was nice - but I didn't like how they did the graphics. It was basically a giant sticker over the entire plate - not just the 'RX-7'.

I have another couple samples en route and will keep you guys posted!
