@Narfle ooooook. I messed up. But in a good way!

I thought trimming was required for the rear hook on the OEM valance. IT DOES NOT. I repeate, no trimming is required for the rear tow hook on the OEM rear bumper trim. It will require trimming in the RE-A street diffuser - but not the OEM.

Ok. That’s all.

Hmmm I see. Would have appreciated it being mentioned here. Wonder if there will be a group buy pricing after this thread?

We added them to the site over the weekend (you are quick!). BUT you can't actually buy the front hook... yet! Our press brake has been giving us fits and a new one is en route. :icon_tup:

My apologies! Just bad timing. We held off making a big deal of it as we were waiting for the titanium hardware (why have a titanium tow hook without titanium hardware, amirite?)... then the press brake gave us fits.

As of NOW you can order rear hooks and we will ship them complete with titanium hardware. I know you had a special request - so feel free to PM me.

For the REST of you - you can order the REAR tow hooks now and the fronts when they are available (couple weeks?). :inlove:

drifter-s 04-08-19 09:05 PM

Received my rear hook today!

I should be able to start bending the front hooks today!

I'll keep everyone posted. :fingersx:

#10 is PAID.
I ordered on your website, got some new tan/tan carpets with a shiny badge too. Gotta keep the buttercup looking good :icon_tup:

garage alpha 06-03-19 10:22 PM

WE ARE READY!

Front AND Rear Hooks are now IN STOCK and ready to ship when you tell us!

Long story short...

The shop that originally cut and promised they could bend the pieces... couldn't.
THEN we broke a press break- fabbed up a new one... then cranked out the rest ourselves.
After THAT, our go-to polisher couldn't polish out the hooks as expected. SO, we had to go to a guy that does a bunch of aero-space and racecar-racer stuff... he worked his magic.

NOW we have a stack waiting to ship. Polished, Burnt and Sandblasted Matte Finish. Front and Rear.

I cannot get mine to mount flush, the gas tank edge seems to be in the way

Any Ideas?

Any Ideas?

I'll be honest, that's a weird one. We've had these installed on a bunch of vehicles and no one has had contact with that tank flange. What makes it even odder is it's just a flat piece of titanium, no bends that could be "off" or anything that could have varied in production.

Has that tank ever been off? Being misaligned an inch when reinstalled would do it. Any other brackets show signs of damage / bending? Any loose nuts/bolts? Are the tank straps installed and in good condition?

I'll get under my car this week and see if I can't brainstorm anything else to look for. :icon_tup:

Nakd n Fearless 07-14-19 01:42 PM

The product looks fine to me.
My FD was built in 03/92, i believe the fuel tank is a different model than most. It even has a drain plug.
To my knowledge the tank has never been removed. It is sitting flush against the heat shield on the muffler side.

Interesting for sure!

I know USDM 93 tanks differed from USDM 94-95.

Is you car RHD/JDM? That early build date might explain the difference?

Did you have an OEM tow hook you removed?

Whatever the case, if it won't fit - it won't fit. If you are interested in making this a "project" - then I'll try to help you whatever way I can. But if you'd prefer to return it, that's no problem at all. 100% up to you. :icon_tup:

Maybe PMs / e-mails are a good idea from here on out?

Nakd n Fearless 07-14-19 02:47 PM

It's a LHD USDM '93 model, must be one of the first here.
I will try to work my magic back there and get back to you with a dm.
Its less than a centimeter of tank flange in the way. The tank might have been removed when the Mazda dealer undercoated the car but I doubt it since the skid trays weren't...

Awesome. Keep me posted.

On the topic of tow hooks - I just got a message from a customer that had a set installed and actually put it to the test this past weekend!

Towed his car with the front hook. No breaking, no deformation just some minor scratching. :icon_tup:

How about that? Form AND function!

I wasn't sure if it was mentioned before but does the front fit the 99 front bumper without modification?
