Rear Hatch Fire Extinguisher Mount PRE-RELEASE SALE

2 Attachment(s)
Attachment 686031

Every Rx-7 owner should have some sort of fire suppression in their vehicles. An unsecured fire extinguisher in the cabin can become an extremely dangerous projectile in the event of an accident.

We have nearly completed the rear hatch mount for our quick release fire extinguisher mount! In the next week or so we will be offering a pre-sale of this product at a discounted rate! Please feel free to post your interest, questions, comments, criticisms here :icon_tup:

Attachment 686032

The rear hatch extinguisher mount is a nice alternative/addition to our passenger seat mount.

Below is what the extinguisher will look like when mounted. It's easily removable if extra space is needed in the hatch.

Where are the bracket's mounting points? Also, does it require any interior modifications or is it plug and play?

The mount uses existing studs (OEM interior panel) in the rear hatch and no modifications are required. It's completely bolt on, no cutting required.

I don't have any pictures of the mount installed without the carpet or I'd post them to show you more clearly.

Could a previous purchaser of the seat mount purchase the bracket only and reuse the detachable base, clamps, extinguisher, etc? If so, i guess I can go ahead and spend $6,000 on some nice Recaros ;)

Yes we will offer the mount and quick release separately or together as a package. :) so now.you're clear to drop 6k on new seats ;)

And as chiefboon guessed, our quick release assembly is interchangeable between mounts.

poop2003 01-12-13 07:12 PM

is the quick release anodized black too? and what is a quick release pin upgrade?
thanks!

The mount itself is powder coated satin black and the quick release is anodized black.

The quick release pin upgrade uses a a push button to disengage the ball detent. It's a little cleaner than the pin with the lanyard. It really comes down to personal preference. The lanyard you can just pull out where as the push pin you need to disengage and pull.

Will you be bundling other items with the rear mount presale/group buy? I'm interested in a handle and extinguisher as well.

Gregory Casimir 01-14-13 07:32 AM

Would this work for an fc?

Will this work with rear Bose Hose configuration as well?

This will not work with the Bose system as it sits directly where the hoses pass. We are, however working on a mounting solution for people with the Bose system; but it will require purchasing the rear strut bar we have in development in addition to the quick release. With the Bose system installed there is very little space to mount an extinguisher back there without permanently modifying your vehicle.

The quick release itself will be available for purchase without a mount for any DIYers out there who want to create their own mounting solution. :icon_tup:

and remember we have a seat mount for the stock seats

and we have great pricing on halotron extinguishers, and are one of the few authorized automotive distributors for halon extinguishers (typically aircraft applications only). If you guys have questions about extinguishers we're happy to answer them. If you care about your car please do NOT use a cheap dry-chemical extinguisher. The powder residue can do as much damage as the fire itself.

Like we said before it's an alternative to our passenger seat mount :icon_tup:. It shouldn't add more than a few seconds compared to the passenger seat mount.

Charlie,
There was a holdup with our machine shop. The first prototype needed some adjustments. We should have the proof by the end of this week and hopefully start production early next week :) Once production is complete the brackets still need to be powder coated. I'd like to open up the pre-sale within the next two weeks and have the mounts ready to ship in about a months time. As you're aware we sometimes run into holdups and can't always stick to our release estimates. Since the quick release assembly is already complete we are only waiting on the brackets.

We're shooting for the $165-180 price range for the mount and quick release assembly. Just have to iron out a few details and should have finalized pricing soon.

So what about users who have removed the Bose System? (Me)

Can we use the mounting point like normal non-bose vehicles?

Yes if you have removed the Bose system this mount will work on our vehicle. The Bose sound tubes block the mounting point, once that's removed you're good to go. :icon_tup:

Update time!
The mounts are just finishing up production but still need to be powder coated. We should have them ready to ship within two weeks and will be opening the pre-sale tomorrow. We will have the pricing finalized tomorrow as well :) Below are a few shots of the production mount installed with the quick release.

We'll have more detailed product shots soon.

So clean, love it. Will be jumping on this list ASAP. I will need bracket only, already have quick mount, extinguisher, etc.

David Hayes 03-01-13 09:48 AM

This looks like a really nice solution for those that want to mount an extinguisher in the trunk. I did this until I saw what you guys were doing with the front seat mount. When a fire hits, I feel more comfortable having the extinguisher within arms reach.

A product modification idea for your front seat mount: You currently list the mount as being for OEM seats only and based on your mounting design (drilled holes for the seat rails), I see why that will not work for aftermarket seats. I think you'd find if you modified the holes into "slots' you'd be able to use the mount on both OEM and aftermarket seats. I'm pretty sure this will work for you as it did for me on my "SBG" replica one-off I made. My mounting solution was just like yours and when I went to Sparco seats, it no longer worked. Found if I turned the holes into "U" slots, the mount easily accommodated my new Sparcos. If you make this modification, I think you'll accommodate everyone's needs. Food for thought.

Hey David,

I am interested in such solution and keep the extinguisher within arm's reach. Im interested to see how you mounted yours if you don't mind of course

The issue is the seat adjustments are different on each seat and rails are all different. We do sell the mount separately if you want to make your own bracket or modify ours. It's difficult to construct a mount that will work for every seat/rail since there are so many variables.

David Hayes 03-13-13 05:44 AM

The idea I posted up earlier as a potential for you guys was to modify the rail mounting holes, Instead of having a hole that attaches the mounting bracket to the rails and the seat bolts, use a "U" slot or make it a longer slot versus the round holes. By doing this, you've got a good bit of adjustability width wise to make the seat mount section work with wider (or smaller if needed) widths.

When I made my SBG like seat mount a few years ago, I made it for the OEM seats so I had one hole on each side with the width of both holes fitting the stock rails and seat locations. Recently I picked up a sponsorship from Sparco for a set of EVO seats so I needed to modify the mounting positions. I found out the Sparco seat mounting holes are wider than the OEM seat positions, so the easy solution was to simply extend the round holes into slots. By doing this, my extinguisher mount, originally used on the OEM seats, now also fits the Sparco seats as well.

I am not able to post up a pic here, but click on the link in my sig to my "Never Ending 3 Rotor Conversion" and go to the last post, #3658. The pic shows how the mounting bracket fits with the Sparcos. I obviously haven't tried this with other seats as I don't sell product, but it's food for thought on how a small modification to the SBG system might make it work for aftermarket seats and open up a larger market for you.

Regarding the seat adjustments, if you are referring to the sliders, most rails have the levers on the sides so that would not interfere. My rails (Bride LowMax) use a lever on the front but it fits below the mounting bracket and is easily accessible for use as it looks like it would be on your bracket as well.

Hope this helps.

Our fire extinguishers (Halon and Halotron) are now on sale till the end of the month with a purchase of the FD rear mount or seat mount!

Please use the coupon code 'FireSale!' at checkout once you have added a mount and extinguisher to your cart. Good until midnight 3/31

This safety mod is a small price to pay compared to the price of a whole new car, and countless hours of labor. We all take pride in the cars we've built or are in the process of building, yet so many of us don't believe a fire can destroy what we've built in minutes.

One of our customers lost his recently finished 02 FD after an engine fire consumed the entire car. He was nice enough to send us before and after pictures. Needless to say he's purchasing both of our mounts to ensure his new FD doesn't suffer the same fate.

I had a seat mount and a Halon extinguisher in the cart and went through the checkout process to a US ADDRESS. When I tried adding the coupon code, it says no items in cart are valid or something.

Also, it says the red Halon is not possible to order?
