Interest? Stronger, cheaper Camber Alignment Bolts

I'm looking into having a set of replacement Alignment Cams produced for the FD. These are much more precise, stronger and about half the cost of the OE options.

An option already exists for the Miata since we wear these out with regularity in Spec Miata. The FD alignment cams are the same design as the Miata's and suffer from the same problem where the threads on the bolt and nut stretch and the placement washers wear out so that you can't get and retain an accurate alignment.

Starting this thread to check and see if others are interested. These would be particularly useful to people that track their cars, autox but would be a one time replacement option for street driven garage queens as well. :)

Post up if interested. Thanks.

^some sort of steel

I need to send a front and rear bolt and washer to them. I have an extra front. Anyone have a rear that they can donate to the cause?

Thanks.

I sent them a front camber bolt and washer so I should have some news on those in a couple of weeks.

I replaced my used hardware with new stuff that I got from Ray yesterday. My washers had been replaced by the PO at one point but there were pretty bad. The design of the washer teeth just doesn't last. I suspect those don't really last more than a few alignments until they have too much play to offer reliable settings. You really need to tighten everything up in order to ensure the bolt doesn't slip around between the 2 teeth in the washer thing. The threads on the bolts and nuts get stretched in part b/c of the extra torque you need to add to keep the bolt from slipping.

Pretty amazing to look at and compare how much play there is in the used hardware compared to new OEM. These will have even less play compared to the new OEM so definitely should allow more accurate alignment specs to be achieved - and held longer.

I was going to order a rear from Ray but he doesn't have any in stock so I still need that if anyone has one. I used one is fine. The camber washer is the same front and rear so don't need that.

Thanks.

This is great news gracer7!

If my FD was stateside I would send you my rear bolt. Where I'm from, shipping it would cost more than buying a new one :D

The Samberg/Ronin LS swap kits require you to weld on additional "range" to the existing camber bolts, like this:

A product people would buy would be a bolt on (no weld) version of those. :icon_tup:

gracer7-rx7 04-03-17 06:49 PM

Yeah, that should be easy.
Let me finish getting the standard ones started and we can think about that afterwards.
I'm waiting to get info on minimal order quantities etc in the next couple of weeks.
