Hood damper kit - Second Bolt Racing aka mattster03
Just wanted to give credit to Matt for making an awesome hood damper kit for out cars.
I bought a set of Sokietech hood dampers 2 years ago, and this spring one of them was leaking oil.
So i decided to scrap the $50 chinesium ebay crap, and go with the ones made by an enthusiast.
His page can be found here: Second Bolt Racing
Picture of the kit
The reason i went with Sokie Tech and now Matts kit was simply because they look incredibly simple, and thus OEM.
A black shock with no branding on, simple hardware. No green paint, no chrome paint, and no carbon fiber. Just a simple black strut like any other car come from factory.
The kit look well made, and are milled from a aluminium angle bar (my guess), and looks solid.
My product had quite a few tool marks from production, but those would easily be covered by some spray bondo before painting.
I decided to anodize them, and in that case some elbow grease and polishing work would be required for them to look perfect.
The big plus with this kit compared to any other kit, are two things:
- The attachment to the hood hinge uses BOTH hood bolts, and are thus not moving/rotating at all from the forced from the damper.
- The aluminium is solid, with milled sunk holes for the nuts so that you get both the strength, and the required threads for the nut to fasten.
All in all i would give the kit 10/10.
The only fault i could find was the mentioned tool marks, but those would take some hours of polish to get rid of, and then the price would go up.
Here are the pictures from the installation. Sorry for the dusty car, its been sitting in the appartment garage for a while since i last washed it.
Hinge attachement front
Hinge attachement side

Balance point of the hood. Lower and it will close, higher and it will open.

He straight up copied my hood damper bracket that I designed and it's just a copy and I don't know where he makes them maybe he has a hookup. go ahead and make your money just like other people who copy other people's s*** and put their name on it.

You cant close shop and expect people to not fill a hole in the market. I was told "www.rotaryextreme.com makes them" but there was nothing to buy there.

Well, he have a working website, and is taking orders. Also, its not a groundbreaking invention. You take an aluminium profile and machine down, then put two holes in it. Given that, i think this one looks better than the "original"

Its not a ground breaking invention - true.
The point is he didnt create it - he ripped it off.
Also Im not out of business - Im building back ordered vm kits. My website works. My contact information is on it.
My issue is not with you bro, Im just informing you he did not make this kit.
