?What damage occurs from overheating?
 

I have a S5. My car recently overheated. Coolent sprayed everywhere, the hoses were swollen like pythons after dinner and melted a little too, and I noticed my electric fan and omp were not plugged in! I waited till it cooled back down and it was very hard to get it started. Eventually it started up and I made it home. My question is, what all is damaged from this overheating? Is the worst time for it too overheat is when the omp is unplugged cause it injects oil??

Your talking about two diffrent systems. The lack of oil will damage your apex seals. The over heating will warp irons, housings, and destroys coolant seals.

Do a compression check to see if you lost compression or cracked a seal. Then check your coolant for oil or compression bubbles (while running). If your car starts using coolant you cracked a coolant seal. Also watch for excess smoke from the exhaust.

I figured there might be some internal damage if it got hot enough to make my hoses swell up so much and melt. All I did was take my car in to get the codes checked at a local shop, and they unplugged a bunch stuff and gave it back to me! They are trying to say that its okay but I am not so sure and I wanted to know all before I talk with them tomarrow. I only have about 25k on a new ported motor.

May I recommend that you find a new shop.

How high did you let the temp gauge get before you shut it down?

Well I stopped for one second and got a drink out of my trunk and when I went back to my door I saw steem coming out from under my hood. The temp must have jumped up in just seconds cause the car wasn't moving. I shut it off right away. I got my car back today from the place that did this, Foothills Mazda, the dealer. They did a bunch of "checks" and said it was okay, it is running pretty good at the moment. I called Atkins and Racing Beat asking some Q's. The coolsystem pressure tested good, and the compression was great too. So hopefully the damn motor will last till I get done with school next year at least! The people at the dealership were complete fools and I feel better touching my car than letting them molest it. Thanx guyz.
