What 13B engine parts are still available new?
I'm trying to understand the current state of motor parts availability for rotaries.
Basically for the major parts for which I assume there is no (cheap) aftermarket. Housings? Irons? Rotors? E-shafts? What's pricing looking like in 2023? cheerio, -brapbrapbrapbrap |
As far as I know everything for 13B-REW is still available, though there have temporarily run out of stock on
items from subcontractors in the past. Its cheapest to buy the whole new 13B-REW (~$4,000-5,000) if you need many parts. Which 13B are you trying to get parts for? |

Hmm, that's surprising news, would not have thought it was all still available new.
How long has Mazda been out of stock for now? What about NA S4/S5 housings? Renesis Rotors? I'm building a rather basic NA 13B, so I think buying a complete REW might be the wrong way to do things. As of right now I have zero parts, just trying to get a feel and understanding of the 13B market to see where/how I should start my parts hoard. |
Mazda's rotary engine factory is a separate building, and its tooled up to build the Rx8, FD and FC engines, same as its been since 2004.
so the Rx8 engines, and parts, FD engines and parts. for the FC we can just get the parts in the US, and not complete engines. the NA parts are going NLA, the turbo was global, the NA wasn't and with the 1st gens you can get the 13B rotor housings, believe it or not Mazda USA sells tons of these. they have 110 right now so that being said, while Mazda Japan makes all of this and wants to sell it, its pretty common that Mazda USA won't have any. we've told them for years if they had parts people would buy it, but they don't seem to think so |
Very nice to hear these motors have that level of support from the factory after all these years. I'm scared to ask prices, must be very profitable for Mazda, lol.
Those 110 1st gen 13b housings Mazda USA has in stock, are they the last of them or do they keep refilling their stock from Japan? Any support still going for 12A stuff? I don't really care if Mazda USA is stubborn, if Mazda Japan is producing engine parts that means I can get my hands on them. :) |

they keep refiling! its pretty amazing
I'm curious, what is Mazda USA charging for these housings? |
What I find weird is the 1984-1985 13B housings are cheaper than RX-8 housings.
|
Are we talking a lot cheaper? What about compared to S4/S5/S6/S7/S8 housings?
How do costs of irons compare between all the 13B series (if they are at all compatible)? |
They are not compatible. Coolant seals moved from the rotor housings to the irons in 1986.
For prices look on Mazdatrix. |
Learned about the o-ring groove differences between the early and late irons and housings, thanks for pointing that out.
Also finally understand about how these motors (10A, 12A, 13B) increased their displacement size and it starts to makes sense how they can or can't be compatible with each other depending on design changes for mixing and matching. Are Mazdatrix's prices competitive for new rotary parts? |

they are usually my default when it comes to buying most engine parts. |
I would not recommend Renesis rotors, have yet to see those work out satisfactory long term in a 13B engine imo.
several months ago I bought the 8.5CR turbo rotors a lot cheaper shipped from Japan than anything in the USA, including the Mazda Motorsports racer pricing. Maybe you need NA rotors since you’re asking about Renesis, but check/google the part number on the interwebz and double check. Or pm it to me and i’ll look around for you. Which in summary those rotors along with two front rotor housings, all three iron plates, and front/rear Renesis stationary gears from Motorsports were about $3600 shipped total. Compared to $5700 for an REW motor shipped via Motorsports maybe three or months later. So I’d suggest that it may just depend on what parts you need and whether it will be torn down and modified or not. . |
+1 to that. i would recommend a spreadsheet, and if you can include the shipping and tax its good.

Make that 230rwhp streetport 13bre n/a - Page 2 - RX7Club.com - Mazda RX7 Forum Defined Autoworks Engine in my GTUs - RX7Club.com - Mazda RX7 Forum Granted they are using a 13B-RE which was in the Cosmo in Japan.. IIRC the ports on the irons and the intake runners on the irons are larger. Since that car wasn't sold in the states they are getting rare these days it's easier to just star with the REW. That said new 13B-Re parts a can be had from Mazdatrix but if you don't have any rotary parts it' probably the 13B-REW is easier than piecing together a13B-RE. My main point of all of this is once ported and tuned 4 ports make better power. |
