Some Basic Ignition Questions

I'm relatively new to rotaries and have a bunch of basic questions about the ignition systems. I'm also an old school guy who understands points and condensors, but doesn't know a whole lot about modern electronic ignitions. Here goes my first two questions:

1) I understand the basic difference between inductive and capacitive discharge systems. When (if ever) did Mazda switch from using one to the other? I.e., which model years used which?

2) What the heck is an "ignitor" and how does it work?

Sorry if these are newbie questions, but I'd really like to know...
Thanks,
Bug

an igniter is what supplies the energy to the coils. as far a the model year i am not sure , but i think it was 1986. maybe the 84 and 85 gslse. not a 100% sure. as far as the coils you should have leading and trailing coils, each with its own igniter. at least for the 2nd gen rx7s
