Screwed up while removing upper intake manifold

Mazda RX-7 FD '96 Chuki

In all honesty I did the most stupid thing a man could ever do. While I was trying to remove the upper intake manifold, I did NOT disconnect the battery while doing so (reconnected it earlier to move the car).

So while trying to remove the upper intake manifold, I hear a "poof" and a flash of white/blue-ish light coming from directly underneath the manifold...

Any idea what it could be?

Alternator post making contact with something metal? Check all your main engine and EGI fuses, one of them might be blown now.

Alright I'll do that! Could be there actual damage like for exampe, a blown connector of some kind or worse?

Between this and the nut issue, it sounds like you need to take your car to a shop to be worked on.

funny thing is, stuff like this never happened before when I was working on other cars :/ guess I'm too stressed for finishing it in time.

just take your time. Its better to go a little slow and get it down right than to rush to get something done for the sake of time.

probably not a bad idea... also maybe doing it straight after work is a bad idea aswell hahaha

yeah, I work on my cars at night also. If I run into something I can't figure out or I get frustrated, I just put everything down and come back to it the next day. I have found that the solution will come a lot easier that way.

I think that my biggest problem is that I already start stressing before I even start. Since it's a Chuki, most parts that I order don't fit.

Chuki?

Ya..remember the intake has NUTS.,.so it's appropriate to give it the male name of Chuki!..Mwuahhahha!
(I'm your car..I'm possessed..I want my nuts back!)

Apparently it's a model inbetween the 92-95 (Kooki) and the 99-02 (Zenki) called "Chuki" which stands for "inbetween". According to a friend of mine i Have parts of both the earlier and later model.

You have zenki and kouki reversed.

Zenki = before
Chuki = in between
Kouki = after

I still think Zenki and Kouki are great names for Japanese Strippers..lol!
CHUCK?..not so much..(unless you are into that thing..haha!)

evo_koa 02-16-17 08:43 AM

Hope you didn't short anything important and the fuses too all the heat. Ive seen a few people make contact with the alternator and give a little flash. Check fuses and hope for the best! Nice build!!

weird thing is that I didn't hit the alternator post, I moved it to the right, straigth towards the firewall. Could it be I touched the grounding wire?
