Is it possible to supercharge turbocharge a rotary?

Ive heard of and seen bi-charged nsx and mr2s with superchargers and a turbochargers

the torque and horsepower band are excellent

I just wanted to know if it was possible for a rotary engine

apreludem 01-13-04 02:25 PM

what bi-charge??

eViLRotor 01-13-04 02:27 PM

Yeah? I have not seen that term used too much.

If you mean running 2 turbochargers, then yes.

SpeedFreak03 01-13-04 02:29 PM

supercharger (for low RPMS) and turbo (for high RPMS) in the same car. Lets you get the best of both worlds for forced induction systems. Usually works well and a lot of MR2s have it. Im not sure about doing that to a rotary but honestly I dont see why not...Keep in mind that it takes ALOT of custom work tho and its prolly expensive as hell.

turbo, supercharger. don't know if anyone would also count nitrous.
anything is possible, but how many do you really see? what do you consider excellent? you can have excellent on a high compression engine, or a well built turbo or supercharged engine. wouldn't rather not waste your money? comply, be normal. ;)

by excellent i mean torque is similar to horsepower and horsepower is high

Get a normal turbo 13b, and place a constant displacement supercharger (Whipple?) AFTER the intercooler, just before the inlet.

SC works all the time, yet the turbo will force in higher amounts of air into the SC when it's spooled up. Use a piggyback ECU, and you're done, but an air-to-water intercooler after the SC would be a good idea for performance.

Or, you could just do what this guy did, and do a blower, twin-turbos, and N20.

Course, the engine is a LITTLE bigger than a 13B:D http://www.ufba.org/memberpics/20_4.jpg

Lancia Delta S4

Lancia Delta S4. 650hp in 1985, but that car was a little bit SMALLER than a 13b (1.5 liters). :D

Remember kids, an engine + supercharger will spool a MUCH larger turbo. Like a nitrous hit you never have to refill. :D

kyle@insight 01-21-04 02:25 AM

Wouldn't that produce a LOT more heat? Last thing a rotary needs is more heat....

chairchild 01-21-04 06:46 PM

Then get a bigger radiator and intercooler :D

Yea who needs a hood? I'll just take off my hood and have a custom radiator made and mount it there. Function follows form right? :o:

Custom intercooler and radiator can remove a lot of heat, and who said any engine likes heat.
Piston engines run hotter than a rotar so they have more to worry bout.

This would be sick.

But it will never happen, sadly.

only thing better than a blown and turboed car would be 800ci of raw power ;)
