They are basically the same except manufactured in two different locations (one in an area with much more cost effective labor rates).

Vspec core is fin and tube design where Mspec core is bar and plate.

fin and tube are built to hold more boost than bar and plate. Most other japanese tuners like blitz, hks, greddy, ARC, use fin and tube type core.


this is 2 FAQ's copied from Bell Intercoolers:

#1. What are the variations in core construction used in intercoolers?
The variations are in the style of manufacture of the core material. A “Bar and Plate”-Style Core is made by brazing up a layered structure of flat plates separated by small rectangular spacers. A “Tube and Flange”-Style Core is created by extending a series of tubes through a header flange and brazing the assembly together. For heavy duty applications, pressure spikes up to 250 psig and rugged environments.


#2. Does one style core cool better than another?
No, almost no difference. With three decades of testing intercooler’s, we have found no appreciable difference between any core style or manufacturer. Keep in mind, that the merit of a core is it’s efficiency versus its internal drag characteristics. When sized for a tolerable flow loss, virtually all cores will produce essentially the same efficiency results. Perhaps a core with slightly less flow area per linear inch, or one with longer tubes, will need perhaps 5% more tubes to equal the best of intercooler’s with regard to flow loss and efficiency. Not a very important difference.

so fin and tube is for more hardcore application than bar and plate. but whatever your budget allows, as long as you're FD is not a hardcore track car, they'll both work

thanks, because one is 500 dollars lower than the other, but i have to way the option of what mahjik said about it will cost more (labor wise) to put the cheaper version in.

The more expensive one is a better design. However, I doubt you would notice the difference between the two.

if i wont feel any difference i just wonder why the mspec is 500 cheaper than the vspec. and would the labor difference be 500?

The labor is cheaper and it's a different (cheaper) core type. The only way to know the difference would be to buy them both, run one of them and then run the other back to back. Even then you might not notice the difference unless you could push each one of them beyond their points of efficiency and be able to measure the efficiency.

The most important part is that it both of them will cool better than the stock IC and that's your real goal.

Thanks mahjik for your help. i guess i will go with mspec kit and get the all the piping i need i need and that should be that.

With the M spec core,do you need the 3 pc. intercooler piping kit or the 2 pc. intercooler piping kit?

piping and install instructions come with the kits.... not that difficult to install but it does take a while and a bit of cutting.

Really?On the rx7store website it doesn't look like all the piping is included..And also,what needs to be cut when installing the intercooler?
