Hurley (HME) Opinions

Hi All,

I'm planning a rebuild of my engine this winter and have been looking around at various upgrades.

Does anyone have expeience with Hurley?

Specifically I'm looking the various seals and the Direct Tip Seal Lubication system.

Thanks,
-Spencer

keep it in here and don`t spam it into EU forum, if someone is using them, it has nothing to do with where he is from or where are seals from.....

smnc 09-23-05 10:20 AM

I wasn't spamming.

Since it's a Brittish company, I assumed that they would likely have a higher instance of european customers than North American.
It was a perfectly reasonable post.

Please allow me to post there as not everyone who has used the seals goes in this forum.

Hurley Seals are junk. Nobody in the US uses them anymore because they break so easily.

Curtisleeyoung 09-23-05 02:13 PM

I've never used them but the design looks good. I have hear of people using them in the US but there rather expensive to ship so most people just buy the mazda seals. There is nothing wrong with the mazda seals. People down play them like there not good which is worng. Mazda has done the most R&D on seal wear, when people blow their seals it's not because of the seal, it's becasue of the engine builder.

True enough. I'm always curious about trying new technology...

The duplex apex and side seals, as well as the direct tip lubication all seem interesting...

Curtisleeyoung 09-23-05 02:50 PM

Yea man let me know how that goes, how much are they asking for the seals, oil and apex? Check out my site I'm trying to put togheter, let me know what I could do to imporve it.

http://www.simtechracing.no/prosjekt_616rx2.htm <<<<---- this car only runs on Hurley seals, and no problems with em yet..

i pulled a motor that had 5 broken corner seals, 2 broken side seals, and pittign and dents on the rotor faces, but no broken apex seals.... coincidence?

My experience whith Hurley Engineering Racing Tip Seals are god.

I use them in my Rx2 and other engines whith hi output.
They are not as hard as the original Mazda.
If they break or get damaged they will not distroy the engine mostly.

i dunno if thats good or bad..

GUITARJUNKIE28 09-25-05 12:06 PM

they'll handle a lot of horsepower, but anything will break if you detonate hard enough...

smnc 09-25-05 03:14 PM

Cool... thanks everyone... Anyone used the dual apex seals?

Curtisleeyoung 09-25-05 04:08 PM

nope coundlt afford them.

pistonsuk 10-26-05 11:36 PM

seals

i used a set of Hurley 3mm for 20k at 15psi. the engine was detonated several times until 4 of 12 corner seals were broken in half.

apexes showed no signs of cracks. but did "score" the rotor housings more than my 3mm mazda build or 2mm Atkins build. this might be due to water injection or other things though

my personal opinion: Hurley=good, 3mm Mazda=Good, Atkins=soft=no good

What kid of compression were you seeing with the seals? how did the compair to the mazda's when the engine was cold or hot?

next time i get a pile of cash i'd like to try those.

smnc 10-28-05 08:22 AM

Me too, but it's a lot of $$$ for a product that I can't find anyone has used...

GUITARJUNKIE28 10-28-05 09:51 AM

i talked to one guy that used them and he said they were just fine...not exactly comforting, though.

i cant say. it was "the same", but compression wasnt good with either due to over-gapped side seals. i'm fixing that problem now.
