Rotary engines (non-turbo, at least) are ridiculously reliable if you take care of them, particularly the 12A, which your car has (assuming it's stock). They have been known to last over 300k miles when well-maintained, though the average seems to be around 200k to 250k miles before needing a rebuild. There have been reports of 12As with 500,000 miles on them.

It's true that on a stock 12A the only rev-limiter you have is your right foot. But I'm not even going to address the stupidity of saying you shouldn't ever downshift.

And rotaries love to rev high within their limits. Many of us redline our cars regularly to help blow out excess carbon build-up (at least, that's the excuse we use ).
