car will start and idle somewhat fine but the second you press the gas pedal it dies. it also puffs white smoke rtight when starter. No coolant is lost either,. Maf replaced but previous owner said he might not have the right ecu? he said he used a 327 but the car is a 326 not sure if that makes a difference

you mentioned the previous owner, so the car is new to you? how long have you had it, and has it behaved this way the whole time?
does it do the same thing hot or cold?

before looking into more complicated stuff, you should probably make sure (check, double- and triple-check) you don't have vacuum leaks.

i did a quick search and it doesn't seem like the ECU should be a factor as long as the car is N/A.
