Engine Swap
Doing a engine swap to a JDM 255 HP rotary. I do not know a whole lot about these motors. Does anyone know if this motor will just drop in with no motifications? Can I use my existing wires? The JDM motor will also come with a ECU, is that also required to be changed? After the motor is installed is there anything I need to know before I fire it up. Thanks for the help guys.

It would be useful to know what car you're trying to put it in.

https://www.rx7club.com/general-rotary-tech-support-11/rx7-no-rx7-643251/ The short block is the same. If you move the accessories/components over from an existing non-JDM block it will work just fine. If you are getting a full JDM block (accessories and all), then you might run into some issues depending on the year of the JDM block. The problem with buying a JDM engine, is that it too may be about to die. Unless you are getting some real guarantee on the compression of the engine, you may be basically pissing money away. Your best bet is to get the current dead motor rebuilt by a reputable shop. It will cost more money, but I guarantee you it will be cheaper in the long run. |

I was thinking about getting a motor from Japan racing engines For $1400.00 usd. Also comes with a 30 warranty as well. Here are some of the specs.
Model: JDM 13B TT Engine Code: JDM 13B RX7 TT Valve Train: 2 Rotor Twin Turbo, 1.3L Displacement: 1308cc Horsepower: 280hp@6500rpm Torque: 232lbs@5000rpm Compression: 9 If you go to this link, it will show a complete listing of engines for sale. http://www.japanracingenginecorporat...gines.asp?id=2 |
Its really a crap shoot with that site. Everything they list is inaccurate so there is no telling what you will receive. The engine they show for a 93-95 RX-7 isn't the 13B-REW, they show a picture of a 13B-RE Cosmo and its not a direct bolt up if that's what you'll receive. Also, no '93-95 RX-7 had a HP rating of 280 HP. Those were the later RX-7's and the entire ECU, harness, etc is different on those from the 93-95's, again don't a drop-in replacement.
This is not the car to try to do cheap fixes as it will bite you in the end. Contact Kevin at Rotary Resurrection: http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ and talk to him about a rebuild or contact Ray at Malloy Mazda for a Mazda reman. |
