Engine Hanger

Does anyone know the dimensions of this engine hanger?

Call or email them and ask.

I want to fabricate one for myself and I don't think they would just give me detailed dimensions.

What you can do is measure how far apart the motor mount studs are, then go from there. Thats what those 4 holes in the bottom are for. The slotted holes are where it attaches to the engine stand. If you have a stand, you can design it to fit your stand, or make it sort of universal by adding the slotted holes. Thats pretty much what they did when they made it. Check the one at mazdatrix web site. It looks totally different where it attaches to the stand, but the part that goes to the engine is the same.

What thickness would you say the metal is ... 3/16"... 1/4"... 5/16"... 3/8"?

Project84 12-23-02 11:19 PM

Their web site says its 7/16 plasma cut plate steel.

Wow, that's pretty thick. Thanks.

7/16" is overkill to hold about 200lb.

Better safe than sorry. I would be more than pissed if my engine fell off a stand.

If you look at the mazdatrix one, it is 1/4" angle iron. I would be more concerned with the condition of the bolts that hold up the block than the thickness of the material in this case.

So what do you think the dimensions are of the length, width, and offset height of the bend?

rxseven 12-26-02 01:28 PM

I am not sure about the pineapple one, I just made a bent plate one at work. I matched the slotted hole end with the plate on my engine stand, then bent it to have a 5-1/2" offset for the part with the mounting holes.
p.s. 1/4" is fine. If you need additional piece of mind, you can reinforce the bends by welding a piece of round bar at the bends.

But what was the length and width of the flat plate before you bent it??

Easy! the width is the same as the flat surface on the side of th front plate where the studs and bolt holes are.
As for the unbent length, it was a 5.5" offset plus another 3" for the mounting surface area and then add whatever length the piece on the engine stand is. My total unbent length was around 15" I think. I don't have the hanger with me right now so I can't give you exact dimensions.
