Engine builders! Need advice on rotor housing - unusual?
Just after dip cleaning my housings and began checking them over.. I noticed on one of the housings - if I run my nail over the area where the chrome meets the aluminium on the side of the housing (area where the water seals go), I can catch my nail.
The chrome seems to be standing out past (proud of) the aluminium part of the housing just barely enough to catch my nail. I thought this strange and need some experienced advise on whether this is a bad thing or acceptable / normal?? I've included a screen shot of some other housing just to illustrate the area I'm talking about.. http://www.fcwatch.com/screenshots/housing_fig.jpg Any help would be really appreciated! |
Can I ask what you use to dip clean them?

Nah! Wont be a problem! Thats perfectly fine. I seen guys that reuse housings that most of us would just throw away with decent results. I personally would never use a housing that has more than 1/8th of an in of chrome flaking from the outer edge!

The inner water jacket o-ring is supposed to handle imperfections like that.

That stainless steel liner is press fit in there, so it's not absolutely perfectly flat. -Ted |
