Doh, AST install problems?
Doh, AST install problems?
I installed my new AST tonight, everything went fairly smoothly, if a bit awkward. Everything is back together now, I topped up the coolant etc, all the hoses are on nice and tight.
I turned on the car, the coolant light stayed on and there was a solid beep. Turned the car off. Turned it back on after about 30 seconds. This time the coolant light turned off and no beep, but 10 seconds later, same thing.. A solid beep and the coolant light came back on.
I would have to assume (knowing that the coolant level is fine, and everything is hooked up just fine), that the system just needs to be bled. Though I was nervous about bleeding it because I wasn't sure if it was supposed to beep like that if it just needed to be bled.
I'm stranded out at my dads place for the moment, if someone could PM me if they know what the problem could be, I would appreciate it
Thanks in advance

Jay,
Although I never had a problem like this when installing my AST, you probably just need to "burp" the system. Just top it off at all three points (AST, overflow, engine filler), drive it around a bit, check it again, fill as needed, etc. You probably have an air bubble around the sensor that just needs to pass on by. It may take awhile to work its way through the engine and out the AST cap. If you know you have coolant then you can just ignore the sensor, but keep an eye on the temps. Its impossible to be low on coolant if you are full at all the fillup points, no matter what the sensor says. Also note that the sensor goes haywire sometimes, I've had mine go off BEFORE starting the car before, just turning on the acc power.
