Does this belong in a RX7 3rd Member?

We needed to replace the bearings in the 3rd Member in our RX7 and on the bench while I rotated the pinion shaft while taking a look at the ring gear this showed up, it is squishy ball. Has anyone seen anything like this before? This my first time opening a diff. Not sure if this makes a difference but it is limited slip diff.
