Crank No Start (Flooding?)
Hello Y'all, my 1982 RX7 has been sitting around for a couple of months while I have been away at school, and when I came back and tried to start it up, it just cranked until the battery died. I have been trying to figure this out for the past week consistently, but I cant seem to figure it out. I would appreciate if anyone would take the time to help push me in the right direction as all of my research has not gotten me far. The carburetor is getting sufficient fuel pressure, so fuel is not the problem. I turned to the spark plugs which seemed fouled and so I replaced them, which didn't fix it. Each of the spark plugs is getting signal from the distributor, so I believe that spark isn't the problem. The car also seems to have good compression and it ran a month ago no problem. I am thinking that maybe the engine was flooded, but I am not sure. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated again. Thanks.
Label the plug wires at the plug, remove the plugs, remove the dizzy cap, and then spin the engine over to get the gas out. Taking the dizzy cap off will ensure the plug wires are not making sparks to ignite any gas. Put everything back together. Make sure the battery is well charged. This is important. Give it a try. If this fails, you can try pulling it with another car and popping the clutch while in second gear. If you do decide to pull it and it starts, be ready to push the clutch back in fast and be careful.
