changing automatic to manual, have some ??
I have 2 fd's. I got into an accident w/ 1 and I want to take the engine & trany out and put it in the other one, but the other is an automatic, is this possible to do?
|
Yes it is, just swap everything related to the manual, clutch master cylinder, pedals, etc.
|
Yes BUT....
You can do it, however you will need to take a close look at the Tranny TUnnel. They are different in the mounting bosses area where the tranny mount attaches to the car.
The Manual has a fairly symmetrical mounting arrangement, with two bosses similar in mounting and size that the Manual tranny mount attaches to. The Automatic has the bosses not only in a different location, but they are two different sizes, therefore.. you will need to fabricate a tranny mount. There MAY be someone who makes one, but I do not know of them, the vast resources out here in the forum may know of someone who does. Also on I believe the Late 2nd gens.. the Drive shaft is different between the Auto and manual. BUT DONT QUOTE ME.. it is simple to check. Just pull it and look. I have a 88GXL that was a auto that I put a manual in, and the driveshaft worked fine from the manual. Notes... It is a pain to do the pedal assy.. you will have scraped nuckles.. also the mount for the tranny is a pain... And WORST OF ALL..... the Auto has a 3:90 rear in it... and the car is gonna be SLOW... but will get better mileage. SPIN |
dude that rear end is good. On mine It had a slower pick up but a mean top end. plus it gave enought time for my turbo to spool.

And WORST OF ALL..... the Auto has a 3:90 rear
isn't it possible to change it though? |
SPiN Racing - are you talking about 2nd or 3rd gen rx7's?
|
Spin, there's no need to "mount" the tranny of an FD. Both bellhousings bolt right to the motor.

my bad was referring to FC
