CD009/CD00A Transmission swap
I am considering doing this swap using the FISCH rotary bell housing.
i see a few people wrote up some comments about the kit putting it together (sort of) but i havent seen anyone actually posting any feedback after the installation How does it run, what clutch did you go with, how does it feel overall. Possible shifter options other than the zero99? Thinking of getting the s1 sequential shifter assuming that it fits width of the transmission? Interference with the exhaust? Etc can anyone who has done it shed some light? |
check with mike vargas. he's been using it since it came out i think. he might have some stuff posted on his social or if you messaged him I'm sure he would share
|
So nobody on this forum has tried this setup? Or is the forum on its last leg?

Unnecessary jab at the community but besides that, not so surprisingly actually ON the website is a large amount of information and feedback.
https://fischracingtech.com/products...u9eTT1MwW-A7-i not sure how much more information or feedback you would need. Seems fairly extensive in their website. I'm sure you could also go on YouTube and just type it in and get some non endorsed reviews there as well. |
I will choose to ignore the message above because it’s gonna end up in a fight and that would be the unnecessary part but thank you for a useless response like that

Hey Matt
thanks for the links. I did come across these links and while they are informative they don’t address the questions i have posted above. i did order my FISCH kit and i am trying to piece everything together. Ideally i would like to use the S1 shifter or something similar. I am not opposed to the serialnine but i would prefer a sequential shifter as for clutch, i dont think this car has ever ran as it is still being built from what i understand. I have used twin discs that i absolutely loved and twin discs i absolutely hated. So i am trying to figure where the Tilton cerametallic one falls under |
How did this end up turning out? I am looking to do a cd009 in my 400+ whp fc. The oem t2 trans is not holding up well and the amount of noise from the bearings tells me its not long for this world.

if you want to stick with the FD3 OE diff, then this newly released 3.63 ring & pinion will help:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati.../#post12641312 6th gear @ 75 mph with a 24.5” OD tire is 2,955 rpm also fits the RX8 OE diff if it’s for an FC then you might have a Miata r&p option I suppose. A Tilton cerametallic is not a street friendly clutch. They released an ST215 version (8.5” dia.) of their ST246 dual-disc street clutch with organic lining in 400 lb/ft and 600 lb/ft options, but I’m not seeing a Mazda rotary flywheel listed. So that’s likely going to require having one made. Likely easier to choose the other dual-disc street clutch options than go there. Tilton has a renowned reputation though. In addition to the usual Japanese clutch options, I believe Howard Coleman offers one now for the FD3 and SPEC clutch has one for the FD/RX8 that is not openly advertised (Super Twin 8.5” dia @ 700 lb/ft, not the 7.5” Mini). Their hydraulic throwout bearing setup fit’s both it and the Mini clutches. Otherwise it also requires revising to a push rather than pull configuration like the others. For the CD009 swap, my recollection is the Nissan input shaft is 1” dia. x 24 spline for the clutch disc center hub. . |
Fisch released a new flywheel to use the 8.5” twin clutch on the mazda rotary. I would have loved to get it but i am not spending another 2500$ and i havent even used the original one from fisch. So for now i will pass
i have not done much with it as it took me a while to collect everything. Got some issues going on so i didnt do much with my swap |
i am not familiar w the Nissan swap setup but if you have a flywheel clutch quandary and don't feel like getting hosed $wise.. the NEW ACT double disc may be your answer. it includes the flywheel (of course) and it is beautiful. i can get it adapted to whatever splines you want and it can be push as well as pull. it is organic and sprung and will hold your motor. feathers nicely and easy on the leg.
