B2600 Bell fit TII Trans?

Will the B2600 bell housing fit the TII trans? I know the two are supposed to be pretty much the same trans, but I just wanted to make sure...

The short answer is no, without major modification. The TII's did not have a removable bellhousing.

Please don't make any comments if you don't have experience with them. The TurboII's transmission bellhousing is removeable, atleast all the ones I have removed are, just like the early RX4 and Cosmo, 4 and 5 speed respectively, transmissions. The N/A transmissions are not removeable. Hope this clears things up for you. But adapting the B2600 bellhousing I wouldn't know. You use the bellhousing from a turboII to use on an adapter like Kennedy enginneering to a VW transaxle or a Gforce transmission and even a Liberty transmission all utilize a turboII bellhousing.

Funny thing is I have a B2600...

Tell me, does the Turbo II tranny have a removable cover plate on the bottom, rectuangular shaped, about the size of a very large dictionary type book?

I also believe they are the same tranny. I know some of the B2000/2200 guys swap in RX-7 trannies for better gear ratios. But those are all N/A Model M (Type II) trannies...

2600 and Turbo Rotary are Model R (Type III) trannies...

I wager yes, although I'd like confirmation, as I'm doing homework to put a Turbo rotary in my truck. ;)

Yes they do. I'm asking if the bell housing to trans bolt pattern is the same.

It should be as both the B2600 and the turbos share the same model 'R' trans. This actually includes the FD trans as well. The reason is the the 87/88 B2600 had a Mits 2.6. 4G63+B2600 bell+Turbo trans= A nice RWD 4G63 application

Thats quite interesting, not that I'm doubting you...but I've replaced the transmission/clutch in several turbo RX7's. Mine is an '88, I've done 2x 87's, I just finished putting together an 87 car for the $2006 challenge, and I've done a few FD's.....every single bellhousing has been cast into the aluminum of the gearbox itself. Maybe the 89-91's are different? I have very limited experience with those. But I've been thru this before, infact, I purchased a bellhousing from an RX4 for this EXACT reason...we used a B2600 2WD transmission on the challenge car because its a close-ratio gearbox.

Maybe some came removable? But, the handful I've worked on have most definetly been non-removable.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/g1.htm All the early "ribcase" transmissions and the turbo transmissions which are ribcased also have a removable bellhousing. If it is a smooth case then the bellhousing would be integrated to the body of the transmission and there fore it is not a turbo transmission. All N/A transmissions from 1979 to 1992 have the non-removable bellhousing. I've been doing this for over 10 years and every ribcased transmission I have dealt with has had a removeable bellhousing. This is what I mean by ribcase transmission there are like 6 bolts on the inside of the bellhousing that separate it from the transmission.

And this is a N/A transmission

I wonder how much my collection of old school bellhousings are worth now. hmmmmm ;)

The Mitsu 2.6 liter is considered to be a "wide" block mitsu model. The 4G63, 4G64, and G4CS engines are all "narrow" block models. The wide block models will work with Starion bellhousings. The mitsu 2.0 truck is a narrow block engine, and the trannies in the 2.0 trucks bolt right to the Eclipse engines. An eclipse engine will bolt right into a 2.0 litre mitsu truck using the same motor mounts. I have yet to find a manual trans for a narrow block mitsu engine that has a removable bellhousing.

The Starion to B2600 Truck swap is theoretically possible. Nobody on the Mazda truck forum has documented it though. Good way to get a strong turbo engine.

The 87-88 B2600's used a Carbureted 2.6L Mistubishi engine.
The 89-93 B2600i's used a Fuel Injected 2.6L Mazda engine. No other changes. Mazda tranny all years.

Actually, there are both wide and narrow versions of the 4g63 and 4g64. The wide block 4g64's came in the 89-92 Mitsubishi Might Max pickups. Take one of these wideblocks and bolt it up to a B2600 bellhousing, add in a TII tranny, and walah... RWD 4g64.

The Starion engine is very problematic and commonly swapped for a 4g63. The best bet in my opinion is, like I said, obtain a 2.4L 4g64 wide block and make a monster turbo engine out of that.

How much horsepower can these mazda 2600 gearbox take.

rarson 07-20-05 09:01 PM

From what I understand, the B2600 is an R series transmission, the same as a TII. I guess they just have different bellhousings.
