acetone in fuel tank

I saw this http://www.metacafe.com/watch/524517...as_mileage_2x/

Im thinking about trying it. Does that lower the octane of the fuel?

Anhydridous acetone is highly corrosive to plastic parts. Also, if you leave it open, it will quickly absorb water from the ambient.

so is it bad for your O rings? fuel hose?

I have been running Acetone in my Dodge truck for about 3 months now. It's a 1996
Dodge 360 CI. I went from approx 16 MPG on the highway to a full 20 MPG. Towing I used to get between 11-13 on the highway. I pulled 17 MPG. Also in town I keep around the 17MPG range when I used to be around 14-15, As far as O'rings go there has been substantial testing done showing that there is no deterioration. In gas applications you use approx 2-3 OZ for every 10 gallons of fuel. In Diesel you use no more than 2 OZ for every 10 gallons. I have a friend that starting using it in his Diesel and has averaged 4-5 MPG increase.
Acetone has an infinity for water meaning that it gets rid of it. It also helps do a complete burn.
I think this is the site that I had info from.

I can't be for sure but if you google "Acetone" it will pop up.

I just started using it in my 7 this week so it will probably be about 2 tank fulls before I know if there is any mileage increase.

Cool, thanks. Let me know about your rx7 with acetone.

Teh people at the gas station are going to think I'm crazy. 2 stroke, acetone, and tolulene. Haha, jk I just run 2 stroke right now, but I was thinking about toluene, and now acetone

Im reading everyones comments of pros and cons of acetone in fuel tank. The thing I am wondering is if anyone has tried testing acetone mixed with gasoline in these tests. 3 oz per 10 gallons is so diluted, but some of these people's comments are scaring me from trying it.

How long have you been doing this? Any problems, or premature O-ring or hose deterioration

The link that I gave you has the site with the "Facts" not what people believe or think will happen.

The 3oz per gallon is the max that is recommended.

I have already told you that I have been using it for 3 months. I am using 2 OZ per 10 gallons in my truck?

I've had zero problems. There was extensive testing that was done in that link I gave you concerning the results of o"ring and fuel hose that had been left in higher percentages of Acetone way greater than listed with no adverse conditions.

When I was driving daily up until the beginning of August ( I had a 4-wheeler accident and everything has come to a halt, including my job), I was using 2-3 oz of acetone per 10 gallons (roughly 4-5 oz per full tank), I was starting to notice a difference, but not by much because my 91 is still out of tune for the most part (megasquirt ECU), and I premix as well during fill-up with Pennzoil synthetic blend premix. The one thing I'm not sure about though is if the slight amount of acetone in the fuel is mixing well with the premix in there. This is the only thing that I have no idea about. I ran about 4 tankfulls so far and I have noticed somewhat of a difference, but until I finally get another wideband sensor and tune it, I won't know for sure just how much it really helps out. And as for the possibility of deterioration that you mentioned, I don't even remotely worry about it. I read an entire article about it (I can't locate it at the moment), and it went into great detail about the entire ordeal.

ive been running acetone in my rx7 for a while, id say ATLEAST 4 months. the only bad thing ive noticed, is when you dont run it you get worse gas mileage.

Some have tried 4:1 mix (30 oz per gal about) and gained very noticible performance result.

I believe acetone contains oxygen.
