12a performance help
So I finally picked up the 85 RX7 in the salvage yard I've been watching.
Some day I want to put a 13BT in it, until that day though. What kind of horsepower could I make out of a 12a with some simple mods, like street porting, new intake, exhaust, ignition. or even a more aggressive port. Would it be possible to get up to 200? or a little more? I am sorry for not being very knowledgeable, I'm a bit new to rotory motors. |
Or maybe even a turbo.

Doubling the HP on a 12A would be hard without going with a turbo. It would all depend on what type of porting you decide to do and what rpm range you want to make the HP at. Just a little word of advise, I think you will get more responses if you post this in the 1st gen section. GOOD LUCK!!

Okay, Thanks Hawk.

Keep in mind that any type of porting means the engine must be completely disassembled.
If your eventual plan is for a 13BT swap, then just drive the 12A as is and save the time/money for the swap. Doubling the horsepower of any engine (rotary or not) is non-trivial. |
exhaust picks up a lot of HP on a 12A, with a healthy engine, and free exhaust after the manifold you should be around 110RWHP
add a header and you'll be about 125rwhp there are some mods you can do to the carb, i've never seen a dyno before and after, assume about 5-10hp more than that, and you need to pull it apart and port |

The mods in my signature yielded 134 whp on a dyno a few years ago. Thats about as good as
it gets without cracking the keg. With a correction factor of 12 % we would be talking ~150 bhp. |
