Okay, from my defi install(don't quote me though since I'm "feeling" old at 26) the Black is ground, which is self explanitory.
Red should be ignition(or is it constant...can't remember)
White is normally the light...but you have 2 so I don't know.
Green... ...the only green I've seen is when I had my old autometer...that was connected to the RPM signal. Possibly the other power wire(constant...or is it ignition)

Ryan,
I have an SPI water temp gauge but it's been almost 4 years since installing it so I can't remember but I did buy it new and prolly still have the instructions...at home.
Lemme know if you want me to hunt them down.
Of course you can always just call SPI?
Crispy
PS dunno if my model is the same as yours

Black is ground.
White goes to the gauge light. I'm guessing there are two white wires because this gauge can be illuminated in either green or amber. You can check this easily with your 9v battery method.
The red wire most likely goes to the gauge power source, which is usually hooked up to a wire that gets power when the ignition is on.
The green wire probably goes to the temperature sensor.
