ok ok, I know to use those NGK ones. My question is, since I can't remember off the top of my head, do 1st gens 12A's have different plugs for leading/trailing? I don't think they do.
And will the 2nd/3rd gen plugs thread in? any benefit in these plugs?
What other plugs have been tried?

 

NGK BR8EQ14 . same for trailing and leading. You can use second gen plugs. Not sure about third gen. I heard second gen plugs last longer.

I use NGK BUR9EQ leading and trailing.

 

I use 9EQ's all around. I do alot of highway and that's what the owners manual says for highway driving.

I use second gen NGK's Platinum Tips. They last three to four times longer than the stock ones. I am using them on Stock Internal 12A with Jacobs Rotary Pack on Harley Davison dual output coil direct fire setup, headers, open K&N filter charger, presilenser, PRima FLow Muffler. The engine respond much better, better gas mileage and response. I had mines so far for over a year and they still look like new....

 

Arent' those platinum plugs expensive? I have heard alot of talk on www.mazspeed.com about plug placement and so on...I gather the idea is to position the plugs (non-NGK's) so the spark hits the fuel ASAP.

Are 9EQ's the leading 2nd gen plug ?

 

What's the code on those platinum NGKs? Are they the 9EVs?

And if the second gens use different plugs for leading and trailing, I assume you're using the specified trailing plugs all around in the 12A?

Is anyone with a stock ignition (ie not direct fire) using these with success?

 

When you guys say 9EQ, what is that? BUR9EQ? or BR9EQ-14?

I use BR8EQ-14 in my 70s 13B.

Anybody out there still use B7EM or B7ET?

 

What's the diff between BUR and BR?

 

Yup the code for the second gen plugs are BUR9EQ for trailing and BUR7EQ for leading. Add a P at the end for the platinum version (ie. BUR9EQP). On the NGK website, these are the same plugs specified for the 3rd gen (the platinum ones only though).

I just picked up a set of 4 BUR9EQPs, I'll give em a go this weekend. They certainly look a lot sweeter than the 8EQ14's. And up here in Canada, they were negligibly more expensive than the regular plugs.

I actually broke the ceramic of one of my trailing plugs last month, I guess my stock plugs didn't like the Yaw timing settings (24L 16T). I'm hoping the colder 9EQ's will do better.

 

I have a GSL-SE.

I'm thinking of picking up a set of BUR9EQP's this Sunday for the trailing. God only knows how old the ones that are in my car are.

BUT
What should I drop in the leading? I do a fair bit of highway driving, but I also end up doing a fair bit of driving in the bity too.

Well, I went ahead and picked up 4 T plugs, the BURQ9's, and they seem to work great.
I was a little worried about the threads being to long and touching the rotor face, but they are a perfect match.
The car still seems rough at high RPMs I think I need more timing work.

Also, I asked for the Platinum ones, they said they were in stock, but the boxes didn't have the "P" at the end.

They look the same as my normal 2nd gen plugs. Are they all platinum or not? Came in yellow boxes too.

 

My platinum plugs say "BUR9EQP" on the plugs themselves and also on the box. I haven't seen the regular ones, so I can't comment on the difference between the two.

They came in the blue Mazda/NGK boxes, but I have also gotten plugs before in the yellow NGK boxes.

The body of the plug is a lot longer than the regular 8EQ-14's, but the actual thread length is identical I think.

The dealer only had 2; the other 2 come in tomorrow, so I'll let ya know what I think about em soon

 

I use the NGK BR8EQ14 as well and have not had a problem. almost anywhere I have checked on says these are the ones to use and that nothing will work better, and I would have to agree after using the bosch platnums, champion's, and nippo dimpson's, that all sucked.

 

I use the stock 2nd gen NGK's (non-platinum) in my 1st Gen GSL-SE. They run about the same as the EQ-14's.

snmc: I have an extra set of 2nd gen plugs left. if you want I'll bring 'em Sat. to the meet and show and sell 'em to ya for $30 for all four (2-BUR7EQ & 2-BUR9EQ).

It'll have to be at the show 'cause I'm not going the the meet. My RX isn't currently on the road so I'd a feel like an idiot pulling up in the GF's Intrepid. PLUS Auroa is the wrong direction from here to the show.

I've been using br8et they seem to be alright but the 2nd or 3rd gen platinum have got to be better than what im using now.
Anybody know anything on ngk's new iridium spark plugs do they have a listing for rotary's.
