Tim, no it doesnt from what ive read and heard.

I dont have race result so cant purchase from mazdamotorsports although I am a member, they have recently gotten strickt from what it looks like.

Here is a picture of the 93-95 one next to the 99-02 one.

 

how much is it? Looks like there's another piece I need to get the 99 to fit the car.

got mine to fit alright....

 

Even the 99 underbelly needs little cutting.

 

It fits fine, but you should remove the little sub tray on top.

 

maybe you can order 2 99+ underbelly/underpans...I need one to. I am not a member of mazdamotorsports.

Yeah looks like if you just remove the smaller piece in the middle that its pretty much the same, I think ours will fit if we try hard enough. But I think the 99 one is only like $100-$150 and mine is not in the best shape to begin with.

 

PureMdMa , the other way to purchase from Mazda Motorsports is if you're still building a car, you can send them your SCCA membership number and be able to purchase parts without sending race results. You might also try these part numbers with Ray Crowe at Malloy, they might be available to any U.S. dealer:

unfortunately he can't get 99 spec parts.

Mazdamotorsports sells everything, but the undertray is on backorder with no ETA from Mazda.

 

What is the purpose of this component? I have it off of my car right now

 

It forces air through the radiator, so I would suggest that you put yours back on. Some people have run their engines dangerously hot because they were missing this piece.

 

My water temps never see over 92 C, even on 100 degree days, in that case, should I still put it on?

 

As long as you are watching your temps and they stay cool then I guess you should be fine. If it were me I would put it back on anyway, but its not my car.

 

Is there any other reason to have it on, will it make any kind of pressure spots or something?

 

Think of it this way: Mazda's engineers spent a lot of time making our car lightweight and aerodynamic. The front undertray weighs very little, but it's aerodynamically significant. I can't think of any reason to remove it aside from being a cheapskate.


Here are three good reasons for leaving it on:

1. Cooling function: forces air through the radiator, preventing overheating (as mentioned above).
2. Aero effects: helps create a smooth underbody, which will cause less drag as speeds increase.
3. Protection: keeps debris and water out of the engine compartment, away from the steering boots, etc...

Can you name three good reasons for leaving it off?

Just a side note about MazdaMotorsports membership, you don't have to be a racer to get in, you can do two autocross events and qualify.

 

You need AN undertray, but basically all this thing is is the 93-95 tray with the subtray removed where it used to meet w/ the 93 nose. It'll take you about 10 minutes to dremel it off. Make sure you leave the part with the rubber bumper that seals against the bottom of the radiator.

 

I put a '99 under tray and '99 lip on a 93-95 bumper, the tray is interchangeable and bolts right up, which is amazing considering the amount of drilling and cutting I had to due for the lip?? The shape out on front wings is a little different, but then that is to fit '99 brake ducts which I like better besides fitting up to lip. The inner radiator "ramp" on 93-95 undertray can be removed, it is suppose to provide a smooth transition from the nose to
the radiator. but if you open up the nose with '99 bumper or shark mod on stock nose, it gets in the way of airflow. My cost was just under $100 from Mazda Motorsports, needed to replace my original one anyway's. Do not leave the tray off. It is the single most important piece to force air through the radiator not under the car, It protects radiator, hoses, oil line and fan belts from stones and other road debris, it is a major aero feature not just drag reduction but stability.
