Anyone know who sells a high performance radiator for a 94 automatic?

 

Contact Mazdatrix and specail order an "AWR".

Make sure the order an Automatic version. The difference is in the Auto' the transmission cooler lines are routed in to the radiator. Manuals do not have transmission coolers.

I have the first one made by him two years ago. It's a special request item, but is identical to the radiators he makes for Mazdacomp - except for the addition of the tranny cooler of course.

Sucks cause I went manual a few months ago, so the tranny cooler part of the radiator has been disconnected. You might be able to just upgrade the 2nd tranny cooler in the passenger side bumper inlet to a monster sized cooler, and just run a manual style performance radiator (eliminating the cooler in the radiator).

I just had my all aluminum radiator installed that was specifically made for the auto fd (using water wetter), and there is a definite difference on the top end. Normally, I would be well over 100C when driving hard, and then would need to take a slow cool-down drive before parking. After driving hard up to 110mph on the new rad, my temp never went above 92C. At 80mph, the temp was about 89C. Not much movement which was great. No cool-down trip was needed. At idle with the fans off, the temp will still rise the same as with the stock rad.

I talked to Anthony Woodward who was nice and knowledgable. The tranny cooler fittings were exact, and the rad fit comfortably in the stock location. The only difficulty was that the stock radiator had brackets on each end of the top of the rad that the aluminum rad could not use. It was simple enough to fashion new fittings to hold the rad down. The battery case and bar under the smic also help hold the rad in place. I did not remember to take my camera for pics, but the aluminum looks like any other shinny aluminum rad, only with the tranny cooler fittings along the bottom, and it is noticably thicker than stock.

Before going with AWR, I checked a lot of other people, and although there are many radiator choices for the manual fd, I believe AWR is now the only one who makes an aluminum rad for the auto

 

Just buy an oil cooler...

 

I just received an installed my AWR radiator this weekend and unless Anthony changed the design the mounting holes at the top of the new radiator accept the mounting brackets from the stock radiator perfectly. I would not recommend installing it without them as it would not be sufficiently secured. These top brackets mount to rubber mounted studs that prevent the radiator from vibrating on the surrounding area.

Very important for longevity.
