I have a very inexpensive fix if your stock window switch has broken and you don’t want to pay hundreds to Mazda. I fixed my drivers side switches using these parts over two years ago and it still works great. Drivers side total cost $24.00. These are water resistant rocker switches good for over 1 million cycles

A pair side by side just fits in the available area for the drivers side. I took a metal plate and cut it to press into my armrest and then made the cutout for two side by side switches, painted the plate black and snapped them in place. I cut the connector off the old switch and reused it. I made a schematic, but don’t have a scanner---sorry.

thanks for contributing. I was about to rig up a switch like this when mine broke 2 years ago, I found one from a junker.

 

I'm curious, is it possible to use the old switch plate with its markings and insert those type of switches into it? That would relieve you of the need to cut a new metal plate and you'd have markings on it already with new switches. My plate is not coming to mind right now, so I thought I'd pose this question.

There was a reason I didn't use the old plate and can't remember for the life of me. It might work on the passenger side....

I find that hitting the switch really works. Always works for me. Sometimes it doesnt seem like its going to work, but it always pulls through for me

 

I have seen this fix and rejected it for me.

I hate the look of that.

I can't stand my car looking like its got RadioShack in it.

I can just see the logo "Realistic" on the embossed steering wheel.

Its good that it works, but its not for me.

those switches look cheap, because they are. Plus they have a super-generic feel to them, like you bought them at Kmart

 

I don't own 4 1991 rx-7s because im a cheap bastard.

I'll rebuild a switch from other broken ones for a week by hand or break down and buy the new one.

(I've rebuilt everything on a S5 car besides the tranny, diff, and suspension.

Everything.

I have more hours fabricating on these cars than i have on anything else I can remember.

The thing is, I tried to fix mine, but broke it in the process! I suck!

And I can't find any S5 in junkyards here.

 

i rather use these switches if they last longer than the mazda ones!
the mazda switches dont look that great either!!!

i have a servies 5 and cant get them from a junkyard and im not paying over 100.00 for switches ......

The Mazda switches are unique, and I do think they look good.

I like the dimple and the pull up/push down mechanics of them.

WHATS DIFFERENT ON THE LATEST SWITCHES PRODUCED BY MAZDA .....GOT A PIC?

 

The new ones seem to be a bit stronger and the lettering is different. I haven't opened them up, but the internals are probably beefier if not redesigned.

 

My red-neck friend tried to open the passenger door by pulling real hard on the window switch. Junk yard spare - $15.
Question: Will they handle rain/spills?

I have an '89 and fised my passenger switch a few weeks ago after ignoring it for 5 years. (Hey, it was on the passenger side and I could fin one at a junkyard for the life of me!)

I took it apart very carefully and, after dinking with it for an hour or so, noticed that a little plastic flashing was keeping the spring from pushing up the contact plate. Got rid of the plastic crap stopping it and now it works like a charm.
