Ebay intercooler piping? Which kit is the best fit?

Looking to get one of the 3" kits off ebay. Which kit has the best combination of bends for fitment on the FC's? I'm just looking for the lowest amount of welding/coupling that i'll have to do. Maybe a list of needed bends/lengths of pipe that i'll need.

I keep hearing people saying that the 92 Prelude kit is the best.

it all depends on your set up. not everyone's is the same. figure out how you are gonna route your piping then choose the one that fits your application.

True, the 3 rotor throttle body sits a bit forward and should account for a little less piping on that side and same with the turbo. So basically whatever works best for getting into the engine bay. I'm working with a S4 here BTW, I'm not sure if theres much of a difference in clearance between S4/S5 bumpers.

I should add, I'm going to run this the "normal" way with the piping coming up through where the washer fluid reservoir is and where the battery was on the other side.

At least that helps me out - I've been thinking hard about doing this for mine.

I plan on putting together a 3'' kit as well. Check this kit out on the bay.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Tur...ayphotohosting

I know that "vipers" from this forum used this kit with some 24/12/3'' intercooler. Later,
-Dustin.

also, vipers said that it took him 8 of these pipes. I got an e-mail from the xspower guy from the ebay site and he said that I would have to purchase another kit. Not that bad at less than 300$

yes but its the perfect kit. look at vipers set-up. just cut the correct angle from 90 degrees. with 8 pipes. He said it wasnt difficult at all as long as you have the resouces to cut 3'' pipes.

That's a nice looking kit - but you know what I want to know? You can get those kits with red or blue silicone couplers - why can't you get grey or black? :P At least you can finally get aeroquip fittings in black and nickel. I must be one of the few people that doesn't want my engine bay to look like a clown exploded.

For air at 10-15 psi, I would think they'd probably hold ok. I'm just saying, you'd think black would be the first thing they'd offer, since it matches everything.

Now the silicone radiator hoses are the things I'm skeptical of.

use stainless steel pipe from jeg's or summit, get couplings and tbolt clamps from ebay. you can get everything for less than 200. the reason i dont like those ebay alum pipes is that you can crush them with a regular screw type clamp. and they dont have beads around the ends to keep the piping from slipping out of the coupling under boost.

if you use T-bolt calms on the e-bay pipes they hold boost no prob.

I got everything for my IC setup from ebay (xspower) i got the largest IC (24"x12"x3") and a 3" piping kit. The rubber couplers sucks but if you make a bead around all the ends and use a T-clamp it should be okey. Anyway im gonna upgrade those couplers with some real silicon ones
To use the kit you have to make some holes in the engine-bay, relocate the battery and get the 3"->inlet/turbo inlet adapters

the ebay piping kit worked out ok for me, i had to flare the edges because they werent holding. also, i had to relocate the battery, but kept the power steering. I used a 3" hole saw (2.5" piping) to cut openings at an angle right behind the headlights, so that with the headlights down, the piping barely cleared, instead of making holes straight down through the windshield washer location. This way, the piping only has 4 major bends, at the turbo, IC in, IC out, and at the TB. I kept the power steering, went in between it and the strut tower. I noticed the engine was knocking against it, so i ended up wrapping it with rubber padding, so it wouldnt wear a hole in the piping. this is with a 20"x9" core, TB temps at the stock temp sensor are usually within 30 deg F above ambient

Amen to that. I'm trying to dress mine in silver.. and silver ONLY. Lots of stuff only has one or two colors available. Red and blue aparrently are popular. Seems like black would be common sense to stock. Its a nice neutral color.

My whole car is basically going to be charcoal metallic and bronze - with castcoat iron engine pieces and gloss black brackets and things - it should look damn nice, as long as I dont' get stuck using blue and red anodized oil lines or couplers or something else retarded like that. :P

It's taken quite a while, but here's the engine, after painting to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Now picture that with those blue and red anodized aeroquip fittings and bright blue silicone hose couplers going to the turbo. :P It's just wrong.

Thanks! I tink I saw someone else with a similar color on their engine, but I didn't see it until after I did mine. :P The last engine used blue housings, with the metalcast blue (I think Aaron Cake said he used the Metalcast red on his) but the blue faded out superquick once the engine was running again. Since this stuff isn't nearly as transparent, it should last a lot longer.

But I shudder everytime I look at the aeroquip fittings in my summit catalogs, thinking of how close I came before I found the black and silver ones.

You kinda have to dig, because there's a ton of aeroquip stuff on their site - it's actually easier if you have the paper catalog in front of you, because it's right there in the plumbing section -

Here's the "natural" colored one -

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Phew, I just looked through about 40 pages and didn't see the black ones on their website, but I know they're out there. It's possible that they weren't aeroquip brand, too, but I was pretty sure they were.
