Just went out to look at my OMP/MOP lines!!! SEE PICS BELOW! The one farthest to the left has a CLEAR difference where the oil is and where it isn't!!

Above it is ****** AIR!! WHICH rotor does this line go to and is it manifold or housing??!! ****!

IS this normal or what, I dont think it is. HOW does the oil just receed like that?!?!! OMG!!

Is it even SAFE to start up the car like that?? Is it gonna blow if I do!?!?! ****!! this is not good. God knows how long it's been like that!

WHAT could be causing this holy ****!! jesus christ this is not good.

Someone please help, this is my daily driver!

can't tell, looks like your oil is clean

 

Uh oh. Mine looks like that too. I have air bubbles in the lines. But I get plenty of oil pressure, and I use a normal amount of oil!!! Someone tell us if this is normal for a S5!!!!!!!!!!

 

NOno no! look at the other 3 lines and then look at the one ALL THE WAY ON THE LEFT. It is LIGHTER in color cuz the DARK oil is NOT in it. LOOK more carefully at it and then scroll your eyes down some.... it's darker below. Oil is in the bottom 1/2 of the line

That's air in the line not clean oil, the lines when empty have the yellowish look of fresh oil.

I dont know if its bad or normal

Ok, just checked my oil lines. Here is what I gathered from Sniper's post. If the lines have bubbles separating the oil, ie: oil, bubble, oil, bubble, oil, then the OMP is not working. I assume the dirty (black) oil is the return to the oil pan (?). I looked at your pics, than my car, and they are identical. I am assuming that is a normal sight. If there were bubbles in the lines, tehn we have a problem. If no, then all is well.

 

Yeah, there are no bubbles, just a distinct area where the oil is cut off. I am gonna order new injectors and lines VERY soon (as soon as i get my $300 from the damn IRS )

**** this had better be normal for a S5. I was just planning to change the oil today or tomorrow and noticed this ****.

And it's alot of ****** work to get TO the injectors... all the way under the IM and what have you. plus it's only like 38 degrees here, so I NEED this car.

Maybe I should start running pre-mix just to be safe....

Oh yeah, ric05 , do your lines look like that in ALL the lines, or just one or two, or THE SAME ONE?

 

I would run some pre-mix just to be safe (i cant tell you if its dead or not from those pics).
Maybe 1/2 of what people without an OMP run?

i am going to check my car out when i get home....also i am sure you guys could save some cash on the lines by just bringing the old ones into a hardware store or auto parts store, they probably have the stuff for like 10 cents a foot....good luck

 

Here is another thought, the stock on a Series 5 ECU actually burns out a transistor when the OPM starts to go bad. The car goes into limp mode. Have you seen a difference in driving? Any loss of power? Pull the ECU and look for burnt transistors!!

 

No, they are HARD MOLDED plastic and i dont think you can find them ANYWHERE else in these shapes.

Doesn't the ECU put up an error code (CE light) when the OMP goes out.. I know the car goes into granny/limp mode when this happens.. so i'm sure the OMP itself is fine. I just don't wanna blow ANOTHER engine


DOES anyone know if LOW PRESSURE in the line can tell the OMP to tell the ECU to put up a code? This is one time i'd HOPE for a CE light..

 

I've never had a CE light. Go turn it over. I bet you are ok.

 

Ok i just went out, popped the hood, and fired her up. Started normally. Ran out AS FAST AS I COULD to watch the lines..... ALL 4 SOLID BLACK. It went so fast i couldn't even see them flow! SO i KNOW oil is getting pushed through there PHEW!

Ok so is this a BIG concern, or is it normal among NA S5's for the left line to look like that in the mornings??

 

Oh yeah, there was some blue smoke at start up... definately a good thing

I just hope this is normal and won't effect anything in the long run.

 

Hailers does not talk a whole lot about oil metering due to sticking his rather large feet in his mouth on an earlier post(see dre-2000 post above). I say start and run the engine and observe the oil line. I think that you'll see the oil head for the injector after a few minutes. Rev the engine a bit to hurry it up. If you worry a lot about this, put an oz per gallon of oil in the gas tank while you worry. I think your going to find this hunky dory. I've seen similar in my old 82na. I've never been able to work myself into a lather over these oil lines. I think thats because I've only had the mechanical pump to work on. I think gravity is playing its part here and the oil will flow when the engine is running for a few minutes. On my turbo I replaced the oil metering lines(burnt in a fire) with some 3/32 clear fuel line that I bought at a hardware store and being careful, epoxied them on the nipples (without gettin the epoxy inside the line). The nipple went inside the line and the epoxy on the outside only.

 

I don't believe it is normal.. You should not have air in the lines. you probably have a bad injector..

I would run premix until i replaced them or got rid of the OMP system.. BTW my GSL-SE had a similar problem.. and the rear rotor blew on it becuase of the POS OMP..

I think if the oil lines have bubbles in them when the car is running, then I would worry. If the lines filled immediatly with oil when you cranked the car, I agree with HAILERS, gravity is to blame. I would not worry. Hell, I'm not!!

 

Yeah, the oil filled up SO quick on startup i didn't even get to see it flow, the line just turned the same color as the rest. So I'm sure it's working to get oil IN. But if it's happening on rico05's car too, the EXACT SAME line, then it's either:

1. a COMMON problem

or

2. NORMAL

HHMMMmm.... anyone else with a S5 wanna check their car in the morning?

MAN... I wonder how they're handling this in the RX-8 .....

 

Just a little note here about the oil injectors and the black spider the vac lines from the top of the injectors go to. The vacuum is not from the intake manifold. Its from the injectors themseles.
The rotors are sucking air thru the black spider FROM the throttle body. In other words the flow of air is FROM the throttle body TO the oil injector and into the combustion chamber or rotor housing. Pure trivia. Don't ask me why, please. My head hurts everytime Irv explains it to me.humor

 

So the oil isn't being injected it's being sucked in?
