intake with v-mount
Hi,
I am in the process of possibly purchasing the apexi intake kit for my car. I am wondering if it would work with the v-mount kit you have in development. If not i won't bother purchasing it. Thanks |
Why would you use a v-mount with stock twins?
|
Because I can make it work with a single turbo later when I get one with minor modifications. Since I track my car I need one before I increase the power.
J |
I have the APEX'i intakes and I'm hoping to install my v-mount in a few months. Granted, it might not be the same specs as the one Ramy is producing, but if you haven't done it by then already I'll let you know if it works. Or after you've done it you can let ME know how it works, haha.

Hi,
By HKS sus intake do you mean the HKS Direct Drive Racing Suction Intake? Thanks |
Are the hks and greddy intakes similar in performance during high boost operations? the greddy is a lot cheaper.......
J |
J,
Yes I mean the HKS SUS intake.... They look very similar, the main difference is the HKS replaces all oem intake lines. The Greddy kit retains the factory 90 degree bend coming off the primary turbo. I can't really say which one is better for performance, they probably are about the same. How much boost are you going to be running? The stock turbos can't handle high boost very well. -Dan P.S. Should have some prototype pictures VERY soon :) |
What ever happened to the FDNewbie V-Mount thread?
That thing looked amazing... still developing it, or has it been dropped? |
He closed the thread, I am and always have been developing the v-mount....and that is the v-mount I am referring to. I don't think we ever post pics of the prototype though.
Regards, Dan |

Why WOULDN'T you use a V-mount w/ stock twins?
They are the most heat challenged set up of all.

i plan on getting a vmount with my twins.. been waiting for this one to come out.:uhh: . or if i can find a really good deal on one somewhere :icon_no2: ... lets see what'll happen....

i just hope this comes out before christmas
|
very much doubt that... would be nice tho

It's difficult to go out and make your own custom kit for yourself. Making a large number of V-mount kits to work with A/C and PS and making it look professional is very different. We are working as fast as we can, but a lot of the time we're waiting on suppliers. Stay posted for a prototype picture later on today.
-Dan |
I cant wait, finally we can see the progress

Alright guys, these are some pics you have been waiting on. This is a prototype and the actual production model will have some changes. This kit is set up on a single turbo car with no power steering or A/C. So it was a some what easy kit to design that allowed for a good bit of trial and error. I will let Dan elaborate and answer any quesions you guys might have. There should be some completed pics of the kit that is on my car in the about 3 weeks once the piping is done and the ducting is complete.
-Austin |
obviously the kit requires a MBK, but will the turbojeff battery tray work? i know its a pita for you guys to test/fulfill all requests, just wondering
|
Alright fellas, that is the prototype we've constructed. It's pretty much custom for Austin and we still have to complete the ducting, and re-design the mounts. The kit will be designed to work with either the Hawker 680 or a relocated battery. I'm not entirely sure of the dimensions of the turbojeff battery tray. Also, like I've said many times before, the production kit will work with A/C and PS. Also the final intercooler will be a bit larger. Sorry for the pictures, my "photographer" isn't the best ;)
Regards, Dan P.S. Please keep pictures of your private setups in the 3rd gen section or other forums. This thread is for the v-mount we are designing, I'd like to avoid any confusion. Thanks https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...4&d=1192491339 |
Do you have a ballpark estimate on the price yet?

I can't help but to think my KS Vmount is lagging because its taking part in the R&D for FDNewbie vmount kit? The whole reason i ordered the KS kit is because i didn't have the patience to wait for the FDNewbie one. but If somehow my order is helping the completion of FDNewbie's design. It would be horribly disappointing in all aspects. the last update i heard from you was that my shipment has arrived and will be sent out upon ur return right after SevenStock. but i haven't seen or heard anything since. i apologize for posting my thoughts in here, but it may be the quickest way to get a reply. please give me an update soon. thank you for ur time |
RX7LINK, that is simply not the case. You're not the only one that has been waiting on their shipments, you must understand the workload Ramy is under. I have tried contacting Ramy but he is currently unavailable. I'll have him contact you, but I can tell you that Ramy will be shipping out a whole bunch of parts very very soon.
|
stokedxiv,
thx for getting back to me. I'm sure you're right. From previously dealing w/ FDNewbie, i truely believe Ramy wouldn't do that to his clients. I guess like many others, i'm part of the frustrated bunch, and this long wait has gotten me quite insecure about my order.. From following the threads, it must be hell for Ramy. So i try not to pester him about it. sorry ramy, hope all goes well. |
Hey Link,
Sorry, it has indeed been rough. I can assure you though that the timing is purely coincidental. The radiator we've been designing has taken MONTHS to R&D, and we got it back a while ago, but had a project or two ahead of us so we couldn't get to moving forward w/ the install & minor adjustments until just recently. As for your KS, it was kinda lost within the vast shipment, and I had a good amount of help on Sunday, broke down the entire shipment, got everything repacked and ready to go, and I'll be shipping your IC kit out prob. tonight if all goes well. As for R&D off the KS kit, that's a negative. A) I'm VERY familiar w/ the KS kit; I've sold a bunch of 'em, so there was no reason for me to hang on to yours. And B) Our kit is quite different than the KS kit. As the above pics are merely *prototype* pics, we've already modified the kit compared to Austin's a good bit, made some improvements, changed the core sizes and a few other things, plus went overboard including other elements in the kit that aren't shown in the pics above... You'll see the differences between our kit and ANY kit on the market once the final kit is released. Thanks, ~Ramy |
is the radiator for the v-mount complete or still fixing little bugs in it?
|
The radiator design is complete, just waiting for the new version to show up. Once the radiator is here we can progress with everything else.
Regards, Dan |
Hi Ramy,
np man, now i almost wish i'd waited for the FDNewbie kit instead. :P It sounds quite juicy. I'll be looking forward to receiving my shipment. Thanks for all the trouble. - Link

just wondering: is there a reason why there is that leftover space on the intake side of the IC? or is the bigger IC core going to fill in the space? the kit looks great, can't wait for it to go into production
|
prob so it can fit intakes for the stock twins?

The kit that is pictured was designed for my car basically. I ordered the intercooler through bell intercoolers for the dimensions i wanted so that i could fit a large filter to be plumbed to the single turbo. You can see the filter in the picture i posted below. I believe that the core used for the production kit is going to be larger. I will let Dan elaborate.

Here is also an idea that Dan and Charlie came up with for the stock undertray. Because the kit retains the stock undertray they were worried about air getting caught behind the radiator fans. So we installed some louvers that will hopefully eliminate that problem.
-Austin |
i'm wondering what kind of options do we have for the kit other than a/c. can we have an intake purchased together with the kit? must we buy the louvers when we don't have the stock undertray? do we have to buy the battery seperate?
|
whell i believe the kit when done comes with, ic, rad, mounts and piping+piping for the A/c fix .. i dont think it will come with a battery but i bet if u want FDnewbie could get you whatever filter and battery u want
|
As Austin posted above, the space left open is for his rediculously large air filter ;) Austin wanted that specific IC size so he could fit the filter. The final core will be larger then the one in the picture, but not oversized like I've seen on other setups. The undertray louvers we installed on Austins car allow a TON of air out, but it is not required in any way. Like Austins IC core, his undertray was a custom one off. You may retain the stock undertray (unmodified) or make your own. We were playing around with the idea of adding the option of louvers, and a cold air intake box.
The options we have in the works thus far are as follows: -A/C relocation kit -Power steering cooler upgrade (can not retain the stock cooling loop) - Dual oil cooler kit (also sold separately) -Battery box (uses Hawker PC680 battery) -Battery relocation kit The battery relocation kit may not be available when the V-mount is complete, but should be available shortly after. -Dan |
Also, just a reminder that the pics of the setup posted are a PROTOTYPE, and are essentially a one-off unit, NOT pics of the final product.
|
making a one stop shop, i love you guys

Alright guys. The weather up here has been horrible, but i managed to snap a few pics of the kit. There are still a few things that need to be done, such as re- routing the fan wires and the ducting. But other than that, the prototype kit is nearing completion.

the pics aren't working?

yeap pics not working

I'm having the same problem elsewhere, man, WTF

btw, I didn't do that wiring :) We'll be fixing that in the next few days.
