GB Interest: Illuminated(or not) Rx8 5 Speed Shift Knobs
 

I know a some people have been looking for the Illuminated Rx8 5 speed shift knobs for a while. I've had a few people claim to be able to get them but in the end they couldn't pull it off.

The non illuminated 5 speed version is available elsewhere, but at $100 a pop, some can't justify the price for a knob. I bet Ramy could get a hold of some of these for a more attractive price.

From the info I have these knobs have the same thread pattern as s5 and s6.

I'd be interested in an illuminated knob for my FD and maybe a second one or a non illuminated knob for my FC depending on prices.

Best modification I did, seriously. These shift knobs are high quality and just the right "heft" because they are OEM. And they look great too lighted up at night.

FYI - I have a short shifter, hence the excess of boot material. I have one from redline goods that will solve this problem and I'll install it once I get my car back from Gotham Racing.

I'd definately be in. Would like to know if there is a difference in appearance between the illuminated and the non when it's not illuminated if that makes sense. I guess a bunch of pics would clear up any confusion.

To my knowledge there is no difference in the appearence of the lighted versus non-lighted until you turn the lights on. It's well worth it though because of its look when lighted. It's very cool.

Good question. I'd love to have a blue one instead. I was actually planning on taking it apart and putting in a blue LED instead. But if I don't have to do that that would be excellent.

I believe they only come in one color - amber. You can take the top off though and put in any color LED you wish. I only know this because one of my mechanics blew the LED in mine and I made them fix it for me:)

I think you guys are underestimating how much they will cost though. They're not cheap as they are OEM. During the last GB for these, I think they were $175 or so.

If its at 175 then I'm out. I guess I mis read thinking its the regular non-lit up knob.

That would be nice as shit. Should fit the Miata Short shifter right? Ah hell, my stock S5 knob did so of course it would. I'm in as long as it doesn't cost a fortune and a half. I'm not an FD guy!!! I can't afford it!!!

Oh, I know what the ball park for the illuminated one is. I didn't want to give an approximate figure because I didn't want to scare people away, and pricing info is Ramy's job. :)
The price tag will not deter me from disassembling mine and swapping LEDs!!
How did they blow the LED in your knob?


7_rocket, you didn't misread. This is an interest thread for the Illuminated and Non Illuminated knobs. I only listed ~$100 for the non illuminated one because thats what the price for them is elsewhere. The illuminated ones will be significantly more.

^Can't quite remember but Rettit Racing did it in about 2 years ago. As I recall, they had the center console apart and were wiring for something else when they crossed wires and the LED popped. They immediately took it off and rewired a new LED on.

Also, today I realized that the illuminated knobs are available wrapped in Black, Tan, or Red leather. I don't know about the non illuminated knobs though but I assume that they probably are.

I think a red leather knob would be totally awesome in a red interior FD.

Love mine with the NARDI steering wheel.

Ok guys, please keep in mind and respect my forum rules. No mention of other vendors, no advertisement of competing products. Other vendors don't pay to advertise in my space...I do ;)

Re: price, it won't be anywhere near $100. So if that's too much for you, don't hold your breath. OEM shift knobs are more expensive than that. Last I checked they were like $120...and that's just regular black leather.

As Juiceh said, this is an illuminated shift knob, it's 5-speed (vs. the common 6-speed one) and it's available in different leather colors. It's an expensive knob any way you cut it. So please keep that in mind. I don't sell *anything* cheap, so if that's what you're looking for, you're in the wrong section :p:

Oh and if there's enough interest, I have no prob running a GB on the non-illuminated one as well.

^I spoke with him via pm. price was a quite a bit more than the ~$172 that these are available for elsewhere. I'm hoping ramy will be able to give us better prices.

I have the RX-8 black knob and it's worth the $. It definately updates the car. I would get the illuminated one if I could. I tried another shop but he doesn't understand english very well and said Mazda only has 6-spd. Mazdacomp doesn't have the part # either.
