What's the power consumption on these? My alternator is struggling as it is.

I've read that they take less power than stock.

your alternator will thank you LOL half the power twice the light ;) win win.

35w per side, and no filament to break over time from vibration. The bulbs we use are the OEM standard Phillips bulbs so no worries about quality/reliability there either. We all know these lights are not cheap, but honestly when it comes to HID's you DO get what you pay for. These are the absolute best! :egrin: and I'm not just saying that cause we make them.... I've compared all the other components and options out there.... this honestly is a modern day OEM quality headlight setup. I have these on my own cars and its honestly like daytime at night, and I have never been flashed for blinding a single person.

If someone was looking in their rear view mirror at night, there would be no way to distinguish your car from a $80K BMW/Mercedes/etc till you passed them lol. Yes they are THAT good :) These are NOT toys like the other crap currently available... these are proper HID projector lighting setups.

Here you go, when you replied to the thread, there was actually one more name added after yours. I fixed it here.

All FB/SA owners on here should help spread the word about this GB. The location of this thread is not a place I would have ever looked either, I found it because of someone elses signature mentioned it.

I'm 100% with ya! its an obscure section of the forum and unfortunately we're literally buried/hidden. 3rd gen section guys may check here more frequently, bit FB/FC not so much. We do have to follow forum rules however, so I can't very well make a post saying... "hey guys, lights for sale, look here"

BUT, another forum member could "review" the lights/installation/quality etc. I should be meeting with a local FC owner within the next week or so to test fit the lights on his car. We'll try to snap alot of pics and hopefully he will be willing to post a "review" of the lights with pictures etc in a thread in the FC section. (We'll be installing a set of FD HID's on his FD as well that day :) ).

There was a local (bay area) FB owner who at one point seemed willing to test and review the HID's on his car however I haven't heard from him in some time. If I can't set something up with him, maybe we can find another local guy with an FB.

yeah i feel ya on that... not to mention you probably would want to verify they fit in the buckets first anyway as these are somewhat deep. Though I have to say, once you start using these things you cant go back. But, it's not something you can describe with pics, you gotta see em in person to appreciate the difference.

Yeah hop in :) if the timing doesnt work out no one will hold you to it or anything... though it may be a limited run of these things when it happens. i cant guarantee there will be an extra set hanging around but at the same time maybe we'll be into another GB if people like the first batch. we're expecting a decent number of dropouts anyway (just how these GB's go) so hop on in and lets see what happens :icon_tup:

Dan your sources are correct LOL. Sources tell me they fit damn well without any additional hardware. could possible use slightly longer retainer ring bolts, though I think when they get tightened down the tabs will just bend a tad and you wont even need longer bolts.

Thanks to Dave (red_dragon) for offering up his car for test fitment. We installed a set of lights in his FD earlier today as well. :)

don't worry, we wont start producing them until we have enough people actually paid up and "in" the GB. This list is an interest thread to try to gauge if the GB will sink or float. We're looking at about three weeks to start collecting payments. If we fall seriously short (like only 8 people) We'll either have to raise the price, refund peoples money, or possibly consider hand-making the backing shrouds which will look kinda fugly and lumpy (though it would be the back of the lights that no one sees, and the front and operation of them would look the same).

nobodymv 05-16-10 01:57 PM

I can't believe this post was started in Jan and I am JUST seeing this (by accident from a reply you did in another area of the forums) This sounds interesting and will most likely be adding my name to the list once I read this entire post and finalyze my decision

I'm working on placing a bulk order for housings, and we're working on finalizing pricing (we're working now on getting the total cost as low as possible). We should be opening the official GB in a day or so. I'm still not sure if we will run it in this thread, or bump over to a new FC HID specific thread, but I'll be posting a link in here at the very least along with PMing everyone on the list if we move threads. :icon_tup:

FB/Miata

The FB / Miata prototype is finalized. I've test fit it in my miata so far. All that was needed was a little trimming on the inner bucket, and longer adjustment bolts to push the light out a tad as the projector extends a ways back. I have a local guy that I can hopefully meet up with shortly to test these on the FB.

Don't mind the paper in the middle... its hard to get a shot of these from head on at full intensity without blocking some light.

Same projectors on Dan's FD:

http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/w...o/IMG_0747.jpg

I'm personally thrilled with the aesthetics, but the point of all of this is max functionality, and the lighting output is un-believable. With these lights in, my visibility in the miata is on par with new mercedes, lexus, and BMW's. Plus I happen to like the stock popups.

Ultimately the best solution would be an unbiased review of the lights in the 1st gen section from someone who would be willing to test fit the prototype set. Hopefully that will happen if/when I can meet up with one of the local guys. I've sent a few PM's and responses to local guys but I'm still waiting for responses, and at this point we still don't have someone committed for a test fit (and or unbiased review/pictures if they would be willing to do that).

That's the plan. I'm looking for a test fitter, and hopefully by the time we test them out we'll be about ready to go forward with them. I think we have enough people to do the NB/miata lights, so I'm gonna say its a go (assuming we don't run into problems at the test-fit stage). :icon_tup:

We've tried our best to get the price down as low as possible, and if we run the FC and FB GB together (and have close to 15 in each category) we should be able to meet the $799 mark. If there is less interest, then the price either needs to go up or we have to build the rear shields by hand (which will suck for me to have to hand lay all that fiberglass, and it wont come out as pretty as a production grade rear cover). But no one would ever see that... that's the backup plan. So it looks like this thing will happen one way or another.

So the tentative price per kit (FC or FB) will be $799 + shipping
(and we can do RHD sets for no extra charge if you require RHD units.)
