UK insurance
Right, I don't yet own a RX7 But am looking to in the soon approaching future, So i have been doing some insurance quotes, But when i enter number plates of several differnet RX7's the numberplate comes up, as registered to 323's and 212's and Several other Mzdas, and if i enter the car, Like Mzda - RX7 - 199() - then it will only give me the option of the 2.6 injection, and as ive heard might not be right but the twin turbo can be classed as a 1.3? is that correct?. so i dont want to be paying 2.6 insurance if i can get it classed as a 1.3, but yeah main problem is if the number plate entered is correct in their database it will always be a 2.6, but if it comes up as something else, it will be for example a mzda 323 1.3 4 dr. So its annoying, any help please?
A) make an account on www.fduk.org, you will find much more UK specific info.
B) There are a few owners in the UK who managed to get road tax and insurance for their vehicles as 1.3 litres, most new regs are listed as 2.6's though due to the fact that the rotary engine, when compared, equates to a 2.6 litre piston engine.
C) I agree with Supernaut, if paying for the FD as a 2.6 is going to make you skint than you need to stick with Fords, and invest in some burbary track suits ;-)
In all seriousness though, these cars are not cheap

Some UK FDs are classified by the UK road tax people as 1.3 litres.. The "official" tax rating is 2.6 litres which is more expensive.
Stock FDs are insurance group 20 no matter what "capacity" you might get away with for tax reasons.
FDs often foul up UK insurance databases as they were only imported to the UK for a few years (92 to 95 i think) so anything after 95 screws the databases.

Like Fendamonkey said, try the UK forums for more specific insurance advice than you're likely to find here, fduk.org or mazdarotaryclub.com have many threads on the subject. As Martin says, some cars can be sneaked in past the DVLA as 1.3 litre for tax purposes alone, depending on which registering office you go to and whether the clerk is switched on on the day or not, but insurance class ALL FDs as 2.6 litre (group 20) and you are, in a word, buggered, when it comes to cheap insurance. If you have to ask...etc etc.
Some of the specialist UK insurers are able to insure young drivers and those with little NCB on these cars, but I've heard of 20-ish year olds paying literally thousands a year in insurance on FDs
