Turbo vert drift build...
8 Attachment(s)
So for the past 3 years I drifted my mostly stock RX8 and really got confident behind the wheel, really learning how to actually drift.
Attachment 756611 Ive always wanted to boost the 8 but on my budget thats just not gonna happen, so I sold my DD subaru, and for the same money it would have costed me to boost my 8 leaving me without a DD I just went ahead and bought my buddies vert he was selling that was listed on here for a while. Attachment 756612 Attachment 756613 Attachment 756614 Motor is Jspec S5 T2, with t2 trans and driveshaft, haltech sprint re, aeromotive fpr, ID 1000cc injectors, both primary and secondary, FD fuel pump, full turbo back racing beat exhaust, among other tasteful mods. it made decent power id say considering the setup, defiantly a lot more than what I am used to with the gutless renisis! haha Attachment 756615 since Ive had it I have installed corksport SS oil cooler lines since the oem ones were old and leaky, comp diff bushings, stop washer bushings, front diff mount, DTSS eliminators, and pinion snubber, along with weld the N/A diff since I sold my KAZZ 2 way that I was going to put in the 8 to fund this little build up.(I hope you like it derek) the welded should still be a good upgrade from what I am used to with the stock LSD in the 8. Attachment 756616 after the diff and bushings were all put back in I took out the AGX struts and ground control coil over sleeves and put in a set of stance SS + coils. Attachment 756617 and after all that heres how it sits now.... pretty much looks exactly the same as when I started! lol Attachment 756618 In a few hours Im gonna make a bracket to mount my sparco evo in there as well as roll and pull the fenders to fit up some wheels I got here for it, then in 3 days going to shake it down at an event in KY. future plans include, modded knuckles, BNR, rad, fans, and hack out the huge racing beat muffler in the down pipe.. for a catless rotary this thing sounds stock! lol as well as some cool shit like aero, nicer wheels than what I am about to throw on there, and full cage. Ill update either tomorrow or the day after once the seat and wheels are on! disclaimer: Im an FC noob still so any tips or suggestions are appreciated! |

needs more cooling mods!! and steering angle!!
Attachment 756591 other than that and a funky shifter, she did pretty good on her first day out! was werid getting used to a totally different car, I spun out pretty much every run lol dont really care tho, was just having fun and trying to surface any little gremlins the car may have. so far the issues I ran into were poor cooling (all oem rad and fans) power steering leaked a tiny bit, and the e brake kept wanting to stick on me. not much id say. should be in tip top shape for the next event in july! cant wait! |
I'm excited where this builds gonna go bro. I'm in the same boat but na -.- lol

no real updates latley. just kinda waiting on parts. hopefully stuff arrives this week, in the mean time I clean it up a bit after this past event.
Attachment 756525 |
What size tires are you running on the squares?
|
too small. 215/40/17's. my buddy works at an NTB and a customer ordered them and no showed so I go them for really cheap because its an uncommon size. when the time comes Im going to bump it up to a 235/40 all around.

tiny update, but an update none the less. got a cusco spin knob for $5 form a guy who ordered one for his s14 but they sent him a threaded one instead and never asked him to send it back! F paying $40 for this thing! also dressed up my e brake cover a bit since it was falling apart. dont hate on my dirty ass interior!

today ruled! got a ton done, installed my new koyo N flow rad and mounted a mercury villager fan to it, then had a buddy wire it into the haltech and set it up to turn on at 195 and off at 190. should fix the cooling issues Ive been having! so excited to finnish it up and take it for a spin!

You're not gonna leave the upper radiator hose off, are you? That could cause the engine to run hot.

its a blessing and a curse, while driving at speed, its the shit, while staging in line it sucks, SOO SUNBURNT!!! and my passenger window dosent go down so with the top up its just an oven lol
Glad you like the fan, and hope the setup fixes the cooling issues. Make sure to get that fuse in there! Don't need any meltdowns! |

IIRC, lean over and use the passenger side switch. It always worked even when the driver's side didn't. Also, not that it will help your sunlight issues, but leaving the targa part off will save a few lbs, and give you some structure to drap shade over and keep some headroom.
Glad you like the fan, and hope the setup fixes the cooling issues. Make sure to get that fuse in there! Don't need any meltdowns! the passenger switch is what stopped working :( I think it just needs to be taken apart and cleaned. when I press it down to roll the window down it dosent click anymore and nothing happens. |

lol no, I still have to finnish putting everything back together, it still dosent have any coolant in it yet either.
That joke is getting old. I like your car though. |
Thanks man!
|
looks good will. put a diff in this thing, have chris coffee make you a roll bar, and get some brake pads.
this way you can get away from the drifter bros and see what this car's made of out on road atlanta with us in october. |
as fun as that would be Ive got 2 events im driving in during the month of october so a trip to atl wouldnt really be in the budget, let alone geting it ready to pass NASA tech at rd atl haha
|
That's 'doofy drifter bros' to you, pal.

well I fixed the oil leak that I had already fixed once before! I originally went with corcksport oil cooler lines since my oem ones were leaking pretty badly, well after 2 events the cs lines were leaking just as bad as the stock ones.... went ahead and bit the bullet and got some mazdatrix lines with -AN fittings like I should have in the first place. fitment on the front cover fitting was a bit fiddly but after some dremel action they are on and it dosent leak anymore! I really hope I never have to do that annoying ass job again.
Attachment 756313 also got a set of mazdatrix tie rod ends, those as well as the solid motor and trans mounts are going on next |
annoying ass-job?
glad its not leaking anymore (yet). ;) Don't overtighten! guess i need to change my sig pic... aww sad. |

Attachment 756274 |
Impressive. Is that just rack spacers and rod ends?
|
yep, thats it. I really wasn't expecting that much of a visual gain from it. pleasantly surprised for sure.
|
liking the vert, cant wait till you get fatter tires to fill up that wheel gap. any plans for a roll cage?
