Besides the possible distruction of the rim, that tire could slip right out of the lip and cause it to go flat instantly. Not a good idea when your going 60mph sideways=D

Ugh. I don't run wild stretched tires because i need all the grip I can get in this car now. But at one point in time, I did stretch tires. Guess what never happened... Everything you said.

Do you have any experience or are you just a keyboard racer?

i have always run a stretch because otherwise i cant spin my wheels with my vag spec hp numbers. i drive on a stretch daily and have been doing events on stretch since day one and yea once i had a
tire come off drifting..........not

Derek King, to me, you passed the usable flushness test bro, but if it were me... id make the fender hit the rim ;)

..

fender does hit rim alot. kinda annoying but i love the little jet stream tire smoke off the front fenders while achieving sidewaysness

Dorifto_PG 06-23-08 04:10 PM

God damn drifters and their stretched tires!

http://www.geocities.com/simontmalle...gal/bmwg02.jpg

Don't knock something if you don't understand the complete setup of the car fully. Its obvious the functionality of it. Well... at least to people who have actually driven. If you can slightly stretch a tire to make its sidewall a bit stiffer, you get better response out of the tire. Its a bit more dramatic loss of grip at the limit if you are used to over-driving your car, but it definitely has a positive benefit for SOME PEOPLE. Oh wow, imagine that.

Get fucked.

I just look at things differently?
If you cant use the wide tires. You shouldnt have the wide/bigger rims? right? Your are basicly adding weight to you rotating mass for the looks? Sounds good.(sarcasm)

I have never seen a tire come off with an extreme stretch. Dont know if it can. But I always figured If you were sideways and happened to hit a lip on the road at a almost 90deg. angle that it would hit the tire wall hard enough to push it inwards?
Does that sound so impossible? More likely to happen when drifting on public street roads with many imperfections. I drift public roads often. And im pretty sure that a stretched tire is the last thing you want on public roads.

i got this far into your 2nd post in this thread to officially decide you play too much need for speed or something.

wider rims and spacers are for a wider stance, increasing stability.

welcome to racing 101, idiot.

SO, by stretching tires on wide rims you get best of both worlds. wider stance without all of the added grip of say a 255 tire. drifting needs some grip yes, but running stock power levels you want as little as possible.

also stretched tires are only close to popping off in the case of EXTREME stretching. normal stretching that most people run are just fine

Yellow S2 Rx7 13BT 06-23-08 08:04 PM

ok now i have experience with stretch
there was an old pirelli hand book that used a rule of thumb, if u get 2 tyres of the same size i.e 205/65/15 put one on a 6in rim and one on a 7in rim, the tyre on the 7in actually becomes wider and effectively becomes 215/60/15 tyre
now i have worked with tyres for almost 15 yrs and used to fit and supply some of the best drifters in australia with secondhand tyres , and also race/drift wheel alignment/suspension modification etc
STRECTED tyres are absolutely necessary and anyone saying otherwise is wrong
i have fitted 225/35/19 tyres on 19x11.5 rims.......if youre good enough to get em to blow up and smart enough to put 55-60 psi in em they wont pull off the bead,
however when they deflate they will pop straight off the beads so caution must be used with extreme.....and this is the most extreme case!!!!!!
common stretched fitments
205s or 215s on 8in fronts......(standard fitment on 6in rims)
225s or 235s on 9in fronts and rears....(standard fitment on 8in rims)
265s on 10 or 11in+rears.....(standard fitment on 9 in rims)
if u dont believe me still go to ya mums car and push the rear bumper sideways, in a back and forth motion, cars with standard fitment tyres will dance/wobble back and forth.......really nice for comfort but we own Rx7s here.........
im running 215/40/17 on 8in F and 235/40/17 on 9in rears
not excessive, no play/wobble just razor sharp feel especially on change of direction.......PHEW

PlatinumPresto.info 06-23-08 10:15 PM

ooook, here we go again with the whole hipari, gay ppl, and the 20yr pro keyboard racer.... Its a picture thread ppl... And its the only reason y I'm on rx7gayclub... Pictures!!!

My bad. I guess i suck balls.

I guess im too opinionated for my own good.=P

RussTII 06-24-08 02:26 AM

heres how i feel about it.
Do I stretch my tires to improve the response.........YES
Have i blown the bead off my tire from the stretch..YES (yes, its actually happens)
Do I give a fuck.............................................. ...........NO

So STFU and post some pics.

215/45/17 on a 9J. Did NOT blow the bead on this one

those were from the last event and i threw some of the homies in... who dosent like to see a R32 with a stroked, ported, fully built RB24 tear it up in the valley of the sun. Just representing all the sick cats from AZ who continue to run badass events.

Me and Forsberg. This pic is cool cause my car's chassis was actually Chris's first drift car ever. Its changed hands a couple of times, but its back in the Drift Alliance family. You know he's trying to catch up so he can take it back... its never looked so good!
http://www.larrychendesign.com/all_s...sb4/day2/7.jpg

Me and JTP. DA Aces! This pic looks retarded cause I'm in the middle of transition from the top right hander to the downhill left hander and Larry snapped the foto where it looks like I'm not drifting. Oh well, JTP's got a camera mounted to the front of his car, be on the lookout for the footage at some point in time.
http://www.larrychendesign.com/all_s...b4/day2/40.jpg

And here's one of just my car:
http://www.larrychendesign.com/all_s...b4/day2/39.jpg

And my roommate Tony who actually had my chassis after Forsberg, but before me. It was green in his hands, and had an SR20DET swapped into it, etc. Keeping the Rotary theme. The RX8 has an FD 13BT and it goes like hell. Also, I designed his car (and Forsberg's too!)
http://www.larrychendesign.com/all_s...b4/day2/54.jpg

PlatinumPresto.info 06-30-08 12:16 PM

old short vid from street swanging days before, my motor blew and before I got caught street swanging.Used to drift daily on the streets, it was to apoint where I was used to it and itwas anormal thing to drive like that..then finally learned my lesson after I drifted in front of 3 cops 2am in the morning..... Its not worth getting caught. I got aressted, released on site luckily. and it wasnt even in my fc, itwas in my dads ford lincoln mark lt truck.[yeah dumb huh....] impounded for 30 days, and I just got it out recently it was $1200 to get out.. so now I have to save $$ and pay off that credit card. been painting cars like mad to pay for that truck...and all my stupid tickets.. I had the stock 1.5 clutch type in there for a while, but I put in the welded a few days ago and have never loved the car as much as I do now.
