Yep, we were dealing with a shitty gun that was spitting and dripping so I got a lot of wet sanding to do to get it all out, but he did an awesome job considering the circumstances.

Small update, nothing to exciting. Went to replace the missing stud on my turbo where the downpipe bolts up and ended up tearing apart and chopping up the whole exhaust to redo it. Funny how that works. Also pulled the turbo and intake manifold to take car of the coolant leak I've had forever.

On top of redoing my exhaust I also want to make some box mount things for my seat to mount on and make a new seat bracket, right now the bracket is just bolted to the floor, janky. Got some rust in the driverside floor board I want to cut out and patch as well, so I'm going to get a lot of practice on the welder which I'm stoked about.

What a mess

Attachment 682523

Also tried to clean up the wiring a bit while I was in there, need to completely go through the harness but I'm just going to wait 'till I squirt it for that.

I picked these up at the junkyard for 35 bucks a piece, so I got a full set of vics now. Even though they're an inch shorter I like them way better then my ACT's so I think I'm going to rock the vics.

Attachment 682522

Can't decide if I want to leave them polished or paint them a dark gray, kinda like Mac did, or maybe a bronzey color. What you guys think?

Carnifex 02-16-13 12:36 AM

New paint looks great. awesome build, cant wait to see some drifting :P

7speed 02-16-13 12:38 AM

Paint looks awesome! Nothing like a fresh coat of gloss black.

Looks like the turbo interceptor with those rims!..lol sick bro!..

Panda86 04-04-13 06:56 AM

What tire sizes and did you need a spacer up front ??

205/50 up front and 205/55 in back. I didn't need spacers but I heard if you have TII brakes you'll need a 5mm up front.

So there were a couple wires in my car that were bothering me because they didn't need to be there. Next thing I knew I had ripped my dash out and pulled about 10lbs of wire out of my car.

Attachment 676199

I wish I had a before pic, the back of my car was a mess of hanging wires and plugs that didn't go to anything. Got it tidied up pretty nice.

Attachment 676200

And while I was at it, I decided to finally get started on making my office a little nicer. Finally made a spot for my gauges, well gauge, for now. No more giant hole in the middle of my dash and boost gauge flying around all over the place. AND A RADIO! Sold my daily, so now the 7 is my daily, got to have some tunes!

Attachment 676201

Also, volvo lip. Since I'm not cool enough for a kit.

Panda86 04-11-13 09:31 AM

Thanks for the tire info!

What exactly have you done with stripping the RHS body harness ? I'm in the process of doing mine, but had a few what ifs.

I'm removing the factory AAS (edfc) wiring & computer, aerial, rear wiper & pump, speaker wires, seatbelt sensors etc, basically just leaving the tail lights and the fuel pump. When doing this, can I just remove the wires from the fuse panel under the dash, leaving the circuit open, or do I need to wire them in / close the circuit to avoid warning lights etc being in my face whenever I drive it.

I'm still a long way from having mine running, but It's completely stripped atm, so might aswell have a go.

mxrider914 04-11-13 02:52 PM

Panda, When I got my car, someone had already stripped most of the interior, so there was a lot of wires that I have no idea what they went to. Pretty much everything behind the dash; seatbelt sensors, e-brake sensor, tail/ marker lights, etc are on there own harness that plugs in at the fuse panel. So just follow the wires and unplug it. I think it's the lowest of the plugs on the left, you'll see what I mean when you're looking at it.

So once you have it unplugged you can pull it out a bit so it's not in such a inconvenient place, then just trace the wires back to the plug and pull them out. It's not hard, I had no idea what I was doing then I started haha.

As far as under the dash, I can't help you much. The PO had removed the AC and a bunch of stuff so there were plugs everywhere. There was a big harness that went to nothing except one little plug that went to the idiot cluster. Since the only thing my idiot cluster did was tell me the e-brake was on I just removed the harness. I then traced all the wires that went no where from the passenger side across to the fuse panel, all the wires that went to the fuse panel I pulled out.

Some went out into the engine bay, I started to slice the harness in the bay, but I'm about to drive my car from South FL to AZ and didn't really want to start that huge project. Besides, this is just for now because the wires were bothering me, I'm going to make my own harness with a fuse panel and all that jazz when I get the time and money.

Panda86 04-11-13 06:30 PM

Awesome, thanks for the reply!

mxrider914 04-20-13 10:23 PM

I made a thread about this in the second gen section, but figured I'd ask here too since you guys probably know more about issues you run into with welded diffs.

There's been a loud popping noise coming from the back of my car when I turn at slow speeds. Seems to correspond with the inner wheel skipping. I jacked the car up and I had a ton of play in the half shafts. Tore apart the diff and the whole assembly had a bunch of play. Only thing I could figure was it was the bearings. Replaces them, no more play, sweet.

I didn't have the tools to set backlash so I read up on it and set it the best I could. I made it until it was hard to turn, then slowly loosened it until it spun freely.

Got it all back together, went to back out of my driveway and "POP"....... fuckkkk!
Before it it would clank whenever I got on the gas hard too, that's gone at least, but still pops like crazy at slow speeds when turning.

I jacked it up and there is some play in the rear wheel before the other will start turning with it, which I don't get. And also a little play before I hear the pinion make contact with the ring gear, but it's barley anything. That's the only thing I can figure to be making the sound though. The ring smacking against the pinion when the inner wheels skips and making the pop/clanking noise. Unless it's something not even related to the diff but it's got to be. What are you guys thoughts?

I'm suppose to leave for Arizona tomorrow in this thing which is a 33 hour drive. Guess I'll be keeping my fingers crossed haha

con-3-fc3s 04-22-13 12:33 AM

Could be the axles or diff output shafts?.. Hopefully you can figure it out before that trip!..lol

mxrider914 04-22-13 09:05 PM

I was also thinking the axles. Just had them rebuilt maybe 8 months ago though. I had my buddies dad that is a mechanic take a look since I'm not too familiar with how to know if axles are bad unless they're completely fucked. He said they are good, also said the sound probably isn't coming from in the diff. We came to the conclusion that it is probably my rear diff mounts, the ones the studs off the car go through. They are both torn pretty bad and we think it is letting the diff move just a tiny bit and hit the bottom of the car, or just the bushings reseating themselves. Because it also seems to come from each side of the car.

Well she made the over 2,200 mile journey to AZ without missing a beat. Can't wait to check out some of these awesome roads! Some of them look amazing to slide, if only I had the skill haha

wankle1 05-05-13 12:37 PM

It may have already been asked but what are you using to fix the camber in the rear? mines atrocious. i actually have the same size wheels and tires and they'll probably fit perfect once i dial in the rear camber since i have like 4 degrees i think lol

mxrider914 05-06-13 05:31 PM

I don't have anything. It's super bad. Get the individual adjusters not the sublink one. Dan Chilton makes sweet ones, that's what I'm getting. https://www.facebook.com/pages/DCW-D...g/287111490352

wankle1 05-07-13 06:20 PM

Weird, because i don't think i'm as low as you and i have waaay more camber in the rear.. poo.

Yeaaaa I was a little nervous, but she did great. I drive her all over the place, had her to Cali twice now and drove her to Las Vegas a few weeks ago. She actually loves highway driving, doesn't like going slow haha.

503rx7 11-23-13 05:10 PM

Has it ever gave u problems on the road?

Got some interior.

I really want to get her out to a track day, but there is just so much shit that needs to be done first. Mostly just have some fun on some good roads in the middle of nowhere, and take her out on the bad ass touge 15 mins away. Don't slide there though, too sketchy...

Zenki FC3S 11-23-13 06:22 PM

Yea man you can roll with us to Tucson on the 1st of December. Gonna drift my shit there

Hell yea man I'm down! Probably won't be able to slide my car, I got some sketchy shit going on with my seat so I don't think they'll let me on the track haha. Definitely down to cruise out and chill though! I'll PM you my number.

It needs a tune super bad. Doesn't like to idle sometimes and runs rich. Been super reliable for me though. My diff did blow in Cali and my buddy had to come rescue me, but that was my own dumbass fault for not doing a good enough job welding the diff.

petahthecheetah 11-25-13 11:59 PM

Start by checking tps. If the adjustment screw backed out, it will be super rich. My 86 would backfire every time I let off. Made a few people jump when shifting after a red light lol

My shit's all fucked up. If the TPS is set to factory the throttle will stick when I let off the gas. I have to turn it in all the way for it not to.

unek87 06-21-15 11:19 AM

you should be updating more brotha . just clicked on your build thread .u just made me decide to bring out my dash cover and dye it black (grey now ) . also converted my interior to black from grey. check out my build when you got a sec .

I've gone a different way with the car, won't be drifting it, just building a nice street car. I made a new build thread in the 2nd gen build thread section. https://www.rx7club.com/build-threads-294/87-base-build-round-2-a-1085855/

Car has changed quite a bit
