Heavy or light flywheel for drifting? Whats you opinion?

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on flywheel weight. I currently run a ten pound flywheel on my 13bt but am considering going heavyer for more throttle control and slower rising revs. When the car is in a skid it's hard to keep it away from the rev limiter
What do other drifters recommend??

Turbo II Rotor 08-10-09 03:56 PM

Better throttle control or shift up?

Zerkster 08-10-09 05:46 PM

i like my lightweight, heavy makes it feel like a fat bitch

JebusFC 08-10-09 06:19 PM

Why you trying to keep it away from the rev limiter? I like lighter, if its lighter its more responsive to your inputs and also its easier to get the revs back up if it startes to bog down.

stock flywheel seems to work best for me. im n/a so i dont know if that helps at all.

weird thing is.... im running stock S4 ECU from an 87TII N332... I have no rev limit or fuel cut?

ECU was never opened or tampered with

if you clutch kick much you dont want to go too light because you need the inertia of a heavier flywheel for clutch kicking to be effective.

Cheers for the input all.. It feels like i could prob do with a bit more inertia. I'm just looking to hold the revs more easily in the drift between 5 and 8 grand.

+1

never had a problem with clutch kicking a light flywheel but to each his own i guess.

heavy takes from response and the power going to the ground dont see any advantage to having more inertia in drifting

Same.

"what's your redline?"

My diff blows at 1:20 ... laps were ok, nothing special didnt have the coils dialed in yet.

WARNING: chick videoing is a fucking SPED... youll see what I mean

EDIT: when my diff blows listen to the revvs

might be sped but she deff new right away that you broke:dunno:

Does power effect the decision of getting a lighter flywheel or keeping a heavier one?

Zerkster 08-16-09 03:10 AM

King im not following you? I had a bad clutch and she probably thought thats what broke

nightridaz777 08-16-09 04:20 AM

he's just saying that she knew something broke when it happened by her comment.

Zerkster 08-16-09 05:02 AM

if she didnt know from that, she deff knew when 10 people had to push it up the bank lol

It's all preference.

After you drive for a while, you'll figure out just what you need. You can feel it.

That's why when i first got my rx7 everyone told me to leave it alone and drive it, ALOT and then figure out how i should go about modding.

lonetlan 09-05-09 09:11 PM

Thanks nopiston for answering that question.

yea im running a stock flywheel and like 240 hp and it feels good but my bro has a 3 puck clutch and a 11lb flywheel and that shit is tooo fucking sick. Turn 4 at firebird main is can be linked differently when i drive his car. that shit is at like 375 horses but still it breaks with ease when i just front brake and press the clutch simultaneously then floor it pre apex of the turn. wish i had vid of that turn but yea i love the three puck and lightweight they seem to go hand in hand. havent done much clutch kicks with his set up cuz outta respect and also the power and welded diff breaks it loose too easy, but i heard of the aluminum flywheel heating up with mad cluth kicks sessions maybe it could fuck up or warp due to heat...

Turbo II Rotor 09-06-09 11:45 AM

It causes hot spots on the friction surface.
